that must have been something else than just firing
300 rounds of thunderbolts.
maybe the barrel of the gun had a defect or something or maybe, he
was the unlucky recipient of one unbelievably messed up brick of ammo.
i have been firing thunderbolts for years, one of my oldest 10/22
that has shot almost only thunderbolts , in all the years i had
the rifle i must have shot at least 60 000 to 80 000 rounds
( say 2 or 3 bricks a month for five years ) and i have never had anything
close to that happenned.
i changed a lot of parts ( a few firing pins, extractor, springs, etc...)
that was normal wear with that kind of round count.
hell, i have only recently changed the barrel, and it wasn't because it
was no good anymore, i just changed it for a heavy barrel to put
in the new stock i bought that was made for a heavy barrel.
i always thoroughly cleaned the rifle and never had a problem
with at least 60 000 rounds so i can't see how 300 rounds would do
that kind of damage on a gun unless it was never cleaned
and with a high round count of dirty ammo.
but most certainly the barrel must have been the cause.
