CBC radio here in NB announced today that the non-native moose hunt here in the province will be cut back to 3000 licenses from 4700. It wasn't that many years ago that the total was 6000.

The reason cited for the cutback was the biologists have no way to track the aboriginal hunt and how many moose are taken in that hunt. Many moose taken in that hunt are reputed to be shot and sold. How traditional is that?!!

So in order to keep the herd healthy the non-natives have to be cut back in their moose hunting opportunities.

I've been here in NB since 1985 and have been drawn for a tag once

What about my rights?

If it wasn't for my immediate family and it's roots here in NB, I'd be out of here so fast ................

Now, now.... that's sounding almost racist. Someone call a moderator!!!

No racism here, just stating a fact.

As for me personally I think the natives here should be allowed to hunt under their god given rights of living here well before us whitemen came along and took over and almost wiped their heritage out by bringing small pox and other diseases with us but when I hear stories of them just killing for the money it makes me go ballistic and I've really gotta clam up before I do say something I wouldn't want to.

I hear lots of stories around here where you can buy moose and deer from the nearby reserve (blackmarket), maybe I'll go buy some and then head right to the MNR with the evidence and an address.;)

And SuperCub what does your New Brunswick Wildlife Federation have to say about the issue?
After the Donald Marshall decision, nobody will say anything, except grumble in the corner.

One of the guys at work today said thay they should open up the moose season, have a free for all, shooting every last moose in the province and be done with it. That pretty much sums up the feeling on the subject here.

That is pure bull####!

Last year the number of non-native moose licenses drawn were 3274 and it has been reduced this year to 3002 which is a reduction but no where near what has been suggested in the above post.....

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of 'inaccurate' information that gets posted.............................

I highly doubt that that 'sums up the feeling on the subject here'

Must have been an extremely limited group that were polled to reach such a conclusion.......................................

I do whole-heartedly agree that natives should not get special privileges. Aren't we all Canadians? Would we not get the same fine for a speeding ticket?

BTK..........

How soon can you come Super cub?

Dave.

Supercub, you are welcome to come to BC and hunt moose with me...

:)

I'll drink your beer allotment, and snore your allotment too.

You can cut the moose, and I'll do the cooking.;)

As mentioned in my 1st post, I was quoting these numbers from the CBC radio.

The fact does remain that it wasn't that long ago 6000 were issued, and no one here in NB can deny there is a problem witth access to the hunt for non-natives.

The whole purpose of the thread was to vent about one group of people with more rights than another.

Aren't you working in Alberta half the time anyway, just move out here and get it over with.
There are TONS of work opportunity for me in Alta in the oil business. I spend most of my time doing radiography at the refinery here in town, so it's just a phone call away.

I came very close to moving to Alta last year, but I have a daughter in University here in SJ and another with special needs. For these and a couple other family reasons, I decided it was best (for the family) to stay here for a while anyways. :D
