How much do M82's go for? I see some old forum posts or archived auctions where people pick them up for a hundred something or less, but current auctions in the US and the Marstar example seem to be around the $300 point.

Use your education to get a great job so you can buy LOTS of great guns. So many guns...so little time/money. At least you have chosen to collect rimfire so you dont break the piggy bank. Time for the big boys later. At least yer shootin eh? And pretty much everybody on this site has at least one rimfire. Too much fun for one person.

I have seen the same prices you have, pretty much finding one with the rear diopter/aperture sight still intact and mounted would be the deal breaker for me.
Also I'd look for one that was intact, had a clean bore, but needed only some wood clean-up...I have seen those types priced at around $150.
I almost picked up a Ross trainer a few months back, but the bore was pretty bad.

The rifles are exceedingly rare. On another forum a survey conducted revealed the highest serial number (what is assumed to be a serial number) was around 227. I have number 12. There has never been a repeat number found so we are assuming these to be serial numbers so far. This may change.
The rifle is tube fed by a tube sitting underneath the oversize barrel. This gives a gas-tube look, but is impractical for a military trainer. This might be why it was never picked up for military use.
My rifle has what appears to be an original M1 Garand type sling with a smaller buckle than a real Garand sling.

The TOZ-78 01 has a custom stock that I made personally out of a regular TOZ stock and a Mosin-Nagant stock.
Everything else is 'factory' as they say.

There are Anschutz sights. THe rear sight fits onto the dovetail but the front site required some work. A machinist had to machine a piece for the front of the barrel for the front sight to mount to. If you want I can get some up close pictures of the front site for you (Just send me a PM with your email address if you would like the pics
