My Ruger American .270 ( PICS UP )

I used 150 grain Nosler Partitions as an all round bullet for elk, moose, and deer...worked perfectly. Now that I have a dedicated big game rifle I switched to 140 grain Accubonds, they've great ballistics and open perfectly even on long shots on deer. I prefer them over a tougher bullet or mono-metal bullet for deer...and that seems to be the OP's focus for this rifle.

The trigger guard is plastic although I think you can buy an aluminium one as an option. The mag fits into the stock. There is a small plastic piece that gets bolted in with the front action screw. It acts as the clip for the mag. I haven't got the action to fit yet so I can't talk about how well the mag fits or how sturdy it is.

There is nothing wrong with plastic trigger guards... My 1974 Mossberg 500 has one and its still in good shape after 40 years.

My stock will be here Tuesday :)
