My S&W Model 27 Revolver Broke Into 3 Pieces WOW! FAULTY???

"(1) BS flag. The bolt is locked into position until it gets moved to the rear by the cocking handle. I think you're confusing "tales of the SMG" with your C7 urban legends..."

Calm down. He probably meant the bolt was locked open. Banging the butt on the ground releases the bolt if there is a loaded mag in the rifle, or no mag.

As for the OP, he dropped his gun. Who hasn't? or won't, one day?

He did not know a 27 from a 29. Only a GunNut would know that. But I got a bit rankled when he called it a POS. A27 sells for about double the cost of a M&P on EE. I think about says it all...

I AM calm - if I got ramped up the post would be TOTALLY different. There is a difference between "cocking" the bolt/action and "releasing" the bolt. A gun nut "should" know the difference ;-).

I've been personally dealing with soldiers at various levels propagating falsehoods about weapons systems for years and do my best to kill them off when it occurs (the falsehoods, not the troops).

I think you should calm down too - you actually got RANKLED over firearms ID!!! Lol....

I was barely 18 at the time. They were a couple of reservists who joined the regs at the same time as me... Pretty sure they gently closed the bolt so it wasn't fully locked and then tried to rack it. It was in 1993 so I must admit my memory is failing me on the details. As for dropped C7s mostly on the parade square where 99.9% of my C7 experience is. After all I'm a retired AERE who was in Maritime Patrol. Have only seen SMGs on racks in the Nanaimo armoury when we picked up our cadet .22 Enfields. Never touched one. :(

Even though I am a gun nut and a total nerd who tries to know all there is about guns; there is too much to learn. I definitely do not know every weapon system intimately. Hell I've never fired a .308, .270 and .30-06 yes but I have a lot to experience and learn. Part of the fun.

As for the OP dropping his revolver, #### happens. Should it have fallen apart, um no.

(1) BS flag. The bolt is locked into position until it gets moved to the rear by the cocking handle. I think you're confusing "tales of the SMG" with your C7 urban legends...

Actually if you bring the butt down and smack hard ground hard enough, the bolt carrier can gain enough momentum to travel rearwards and unlock the bolt and thus #### the action. It's rough on the weapon though (especially the buffer tube / stock and takedown / pivot pin assemblies on the lower.) I've only seen it done with an unloaded C7; I can't comment on if it works with a loaded magazine.

Things like this just happen and most of You - the classic chair commandos - never carried any gun daily. You should tone down your criticism the big fellas. Once in a while, after a ####ty, long shift things like this may happen to anyone and when You have to hang your gun up high on the wall and put the padlock on...uhhh...ahhh...welcome in the real world.

Hmmm, I owned guns for years never dropped one. Then again I had to $$ for all of my investments so yea, I give a sh1t...I've even been known to clean them once in a while.:p A dropped large frame revolver onto concrete=expect to have broken, chipped and bent components it's not the fault of the manufacturer and please treat all firearms with the utmost of respect whether loaded or not, whether you're tired or not.

Nestor; are you trying to tell us that after a "sh**y long shift" your care and control are "out the window"? If so I would keep this fact very quiet least your employer become aware.

back to my "commando chair"

What I'm trying to tell You is that I never seen a superhuman except for the internet forum. We all are making mistakes at times and people when tired tend to make more of them. I never dropped my gun either, but I have in my file the written warning for leaving my gun key out in the open. Guess what? That happened after a long and ####ty shift when I was dead tired. And, yes I've seen people dropping their guns as well. The same goes for the shotguns BTW.

Have to say, I have dropped guns and seen them dropped. Wasn't on purpose, but accidents happen. And on a Smith, the cylinder assembly retention screw will often sheer or gouge through the tiny ledge that retains it. As to the 27/29 controversy, some folks come to the party late, cut them some slack. Most of us weren't born with a gun in our hand. - dan

Come on Dan, you KNOW there are no accidents when it comes to guns. Only negligence.;)

CGNers have to remember that gun enthousiasts are a minority in the buisness of armored trucks and police. Most don't give a s**t about guns.

They'd better. At some point, their life may depend on it.

Honestly, have any of you haters ever picked up the gun trader's guide? That thing is about the most comprehensive book on guns and it doesn't even include every gun ever made. If the haters can name even 15% of the guns in the book I would be thoroughly impressed. So it shouldn't be any surprise that an armed guard has no idea what is what.

Many people who carry, for example, armed guards and police officers haven't the slightest idea what guns are what. They know that they either carry a Glock 40cal, a Sig 40cal, an M&P 40 cal and that is about it. They typically know basic maintenance as well.

There is a world outside of guns and not everyone gives a s**t about them. I love guns personally, but there are a lot more guns that I know nothing about than I do know about. A great deal of my co-workers just want to collect a pay cheque, not do the job to carry a gun.

I should add that I have dropped my firearm, as I have dropped my baton, flashlight, handcuffs and just about every other item on my duty belt. It can happen. Someone said it best, there are wayyy too many armchair commandos.

I have dropped mine once after unloading it and returning it to my gun locker. I have seen it happen to other guys and gals too. When you take your gun out and load it + unload it and put it away at the end of your shift, 5 times a week, there is bound to happen a moment of negligence caused by fatigue and routine. It should not happen but it does. We are only human.

I also have seen guns being dropped in IPSC.

However, I have never dropped any of my personnal firearms. Maybe I'm more careful, not as tired when I handle my own. Who knows?

I'm not trying to make excuses. S**t happens!

Dropping your service revolver is nothing. I've seen a forklift punch through the side of an aircraft, someone hooking up the power cart to the mule and driving away...oops forgot to unplug the aircraft and the classic hit the hangar with the wingtip. s**t happens.

Please read what I wrote. I said "I got a bit rankled when he called it a POS." Or do you think a "POS" is a model of a firearm?

Well I know that tone is hard to convey via the keyboard but I was attempting to make a joke. Sorry you didn't get it...
