Hey everyone, i love my Savage Mark 111 in 30-06, and would love to beef her up for some longer range accuracy, and to make her look cooler! So what i would like to get is (A) A nice looking green or black tactical style stock. And (B) i also want to outfit her with a heavy barrel. I just put a nice Viper scope on her, so i think that that's taken care of. Can y'all lead me in the right direction please?

Umm, the stock...anywhere from $200-$300max..for a nice tactical one tho.

hate to burst your bubble, but your not gonna get much stock for 300 bucks max, stocks like the a4/5 etc are closer to 900+ depending on the options you want... maybe somthing by choate might suit you?

Jerry aka mysticprecission sells them

That's great man...thank you. Just a question tho, for a Savage mark 111, is there anything i should be specifically looking for as far as a stock?

To fit your budget Jerry sells three stocks. I would suggest the Choate Tactical. I haven't picked one up so I can't tell you how it fits me, but I had a Choate Varmint and what it lacks in cool it more than makes up for in durability and function. I'd guess the Tactical comes with the spacers to adjust the length of pull and it's not a bad looking stock. If I was looking for a stock today that's the one I'd buy. Spend the money I save on a nice set of Redding dies and have money left over.

Do you intend to leave it a 30-06? There's a few other things to consider if that's the case. If your swapping the tube here's your chance to chamber it in a cartridge better suited for paper. Also getting a prefit in 30-06 will mean a wait. If your going to have to wait for the barrel you may as well consider something in a 6.5mm or 7mm. Just a thought.

Beyond looking cool what are you trying to do?

Sit down and figure out how much you want to spend. Long rang can be done with non magnum cartridges so don't get wed to the idea of a magnum. Nothing wrong with your 30-06, but if it were me I might consider a 7mm like the 280 Rem if I had to order a barrel. There's lots to choose from that use a standard size bolt face and the Long Action can work with short action cartridges. Also consider where your going to do most of your shooting. Some ranges have limits on what you can shoot. It would blow if you show up with you nice new 300 WM and find out that the limit is 308 Win.

I sure Jerry will ship to Ontario. He's great to deal with. I happen to have the b&c stock on a stevens actioned 22-250 AI I just picked up and its a nice stock. Nothing too fancy but it works very well and is miles ahead of the stock savage offering.

No problem. Yeah Im sure he will ship it anyway across Canada. From what Ive read hes a really good guy to deal with.

Thanks D They are not too heavy of a stock for walking are most of the day for coyotes?

The stock has a bit if weight to it. I've never weighed it but its solid and has an aluminum bedding block in it. My rifle weighs in at 15 lbs but that's with a 26" barrel that's 1" at the muzzle. Also the forearm is a little squared off so its not the most comfortable to shoot off hand. It works very well off a bag or bipod.
