Sad, tragic.....expensive.

Just a few words to describe my scope project for my CZ 858. I purchased a rail from Kalinka optics, and a 4X8 zoom posp AK-type mount from Posp.ru. Cost

Rail and shipping 26.42

Scope and shipping and tax and customs - $247.80

Return shipping of scope to Belarus - $20.00

Return shipping of rail to Kalinka $5.00

Total cost $299.22 -

Of this I may only recoup $150 - 200.

Cost of waiting time, and frustration - priceless...

Here's the problem...the POSP scope absolutely sucks! The reticle is so faint, I can BARELY see it in bright daylight, so whats the point of the scope. I'm not going to proceed with mounting the rail, as there are no offset scope mount options yet, and if I use the Weaver pops adapter availiable, its likely that ejecting cases will just punish my optics. So - does anyone have any advice?

You probably COULD have made the mount work. You will need to get yourself a red dot as a full size scope will not work .. period.

I bought an 8x fixed power POSP with an illuminated reticle and it is awesome!! The company in Belarus has some good stuff and if you check the net, lots of dedicated followers. Stay away from the variable power Russian stuff .. more complex, more to go wrong.
In MOST cases .. with scopes, you get what you pay for (unfortunately) It still cannot be fitted on my 858.

I have a Russian mount too .. it had to be altered. I know you have talked to Flobalob. That is the best anyone has done so far (fabbed Russian mount and a red dot) .. as for an offset rifle scope mount, you will have to fab that from a Russian mount as well. I have purchased an extra one made from aluminum that I will get modified one day. If you are not a machinist or cannot have it done at a reasonable price, just wait until someone comes out with what you want.

my two cents

:D

Get a mount the same as mine and stick a mini scope on top. Kalinka have them for about $100.

I know you live in Sask so why not pay me a visit and try mine with the red dot, bring your new scope at the same time and we can try that at the same time. I can also help with mounting the rail.

It is a permanent mount - its AK -style POSP off set - but its integral to the scope.

Mike

So the scope mount is offset and the scope can not be moved from the mount ?

What exactly is a "weaver pops adapter" and what good is it if your scope can not be removed from it's mount ?

PS is your scope an illuminated one ?

Why not  They work fine on AK's so why not an 858 ?

I was curious about why the scopes wouldn't work on an 858 as well. Anyways Flob, I find that the reticle on the zoom scope is just way to faint.

I assume it's an illuminated reticle, what happens when you illuminate it ? What's it like in other than bright sunlight ?

My red dot is crap until I turn it on :)

That my concern as well Hitzy - I just figured that the offset scope for an AK might be alright - but I think I figured wrong...

If it's offset it should be fine. All that matters is that it is not directly over the ejection port.

EXACTLY how offset is the bloody thing ?

For the ammount of time that scope mounts for the CZ/VZ have been discussed on this forum I would have thought that loads of peoople would have optics on their rifles by now. As Far as I know only myself and Diswy have fitted optic mounts. I can't understand it, it's hardly rocket science.

LOL.... I think I gave up too soon. The Russian zoom scope is WAY too big...but I think if I buy a compact with the same type of mount you have Flob - then it might work. Just had to see it all together - I'll let you guys know what I come up with.

Gonna spend some time planning it tonight.
