My scope rings are 1/100th of an inch too big

I have a 1955 Husqvarna rifle with Kesselring bases and rings holding a vintage 26 mm 2.75X Kollmorgen scope.

I'm going to replace the scope with a one-inch Leupold but the rings are 26 mm to hold the 26 mm ( 1 1/100-inch) scope.

The Kesselring bases and rings do not look to be easily replaced with Weaver bases so I was wondering if there was something I could do to firmly mount a one-inch scope into 26mm rings.

Get your self some brass shimstock and cut it to fit in the rings.I'm thinking .010" would work wrapped once around the inside of the rings.Any industrial supply store would have it.

Just converting the math into something I can understand and I come up with a 23 thou difference (.01" radius) - not a big deal. A couple pieces of tape may be needed, but I'd still try the 1" rings without anything first.
 
Yes - I think we got that. Have you tried 1" rings, though? You know, mathematician vs. engineer...

As I said at the start, these are vintage Kesselring bases and rings. They are a unique proprietary mounting system from the 1950s and not compatible with other types available in one-inch rings except for a continent -wide search.
 
Check out these spacers.

You can find them if you search the web for Mauser Scope rings.
In the old days Mausers in Germany were issued with 26.5mm scope rings, that might be what you have. Anyway these adapter spacers are easy to find on Google. I've seen them on ebay too.

Or you can just make some .022 shims from shim stock - typically available at factory supply outfits like WFS in Windsor. To get the thickness you are after you may need 2 sizes like .015 and .007 or something.

On the other hand if you really do have 26mm rings then you would just need like .012 inch shims.

Rather than buy shims, just look around the house for plastic packaging material or even cut a water bottle or bleach bottle up. I bet you can find something around the house that would work. You will of course need a vernier or micrometer or something to measure with. I'm sure Cambodian Tire would have a cheap vernier for maybe $20 bucks.

i would not use any metal shims what so ever masking tape works very well and is slightly dimpled which will stop the scope from slipping
if the bases on the rifle you speak of are screwed on and not integral to the receiver then you could replace them with many different base and ring combos
