Finally!!!! A guy just got ahold of me from Firearms Canada with a TASCO 705 6-18x40, which I have been looking for since I bought my Ruger #1V in .220 Swift! The Tasco should compliment the #1 very nicely! The 705 is from a time when TASCO scopes were still good, its made in Japan, and the glass is supposed to be of surprisingly good quality! The guy sent pictures of it, and it looks like brand new! Comes with the sunshade, and screw on lens caps, even still has the original box for it. The mounting blocks are a bonus as well. And the price! All i'll say is I would have paid twice what he charged me! :)

Ill put some pictures of the finished product up when I receive it!..... Oh, The wife also bought me a Boyd's lightweight thumbhole in pepper laminate for my BMAG today as well! (All I had to do is buy her a new camera for her photography business!) :-( LOL..... It was a good day!

Ginnz.... (pics to follow)!

Tom,

You know, Ive made two purchases from there in the past, and had no issues. My first one was a Ruger 10/22 Target, for 600.00! And it wet smooth as silk, and the other for a cheap SightMark scope..... Jeez, i hope this isnt a bad deal. The guy told me he was from quebec, and I did a pingback on his I.P off the email header, and it all checked out. I also did a image search to see if his pictures were genuine, and they didnt show up anywhere else on the internet, so it appears that they are original. Anyways, I did EMT payment, and am now hoping for the best, I guess! Damn, I hope we didnt jinx the deal by throwing negative energy at it! LOL..... (actually, im not really laughing) ;-)

I hope all turns out well, Ginnz. In addition to the image search, it may be worth while to search for some of the phrases that he/she used to describe the scope --- I've often found that to be more effective at weeding out scams than searching for images. Unfortunately, the answering of WTB ads with exactly what you're looking for at a hard-to-believe price is a hallmark of scammers; I also see an inordinate amount of scams ads out of Quebec. That's not to say that everything on that site is a scam, but you do have to be careful. Asking for a phone number and a good time to call is another good way to weed out scammers --- almost universally they prefer to get your number and call you instead.

I must say, that is one heck of a nice looking scope, and I can see what you mean about it being well-suited for the 220!

Yeah.... you know it was kind of late, I was tired, and just wanted to get the deal done and to bed.... I thought about it today, I should have asked for his phone number at least and seen what kind of reply i'd get.... I hate to say it, but i'm starting to get second thoughts on it now! The images sure looked like they were genuine though! Awww hell, Itll prolly work out all right.! No need to worry my face off. Worse case wouldn't be the end of the world. It wasn't a 5000.00 long range rig! But damn it would hurt having to start the search all over again! heres a couple pics of the actual scope he sent.

Those pictures definitely don't look like they're from any manufactures or retailers website so that's a good sign. It looks like it was sitting on grandma's old dresser.

I really hope it works out without a hitch and you can tell me that you told me so! ;) :d

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that image shows up here: http://thumbs4.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/m5QzKEYgybVMRm_Au1IPaWQ.jpg

Perhaps the seller also had the scope posted on ebay, but honestly, I'd be concerned and would try to pull back your EMT if it hasn't yet been cashed.

EDIT: Here's the actual ad, from the US :(

Notice how the photos you have are trimmed at the bottom to remove the poster's name:

oh man, feel bad for you.
but honestly i will not go near that site, unless face to face.

I agree! I've sold many firearms on the site, but proceed with caution if you are not buying face to face. As many fraudulent ad's as there are on the site, its no where near as bad as the used firearms.ca website. There are more scams on that site then legitimate ads. Stick to CGN....way more reputable!!

So what was the outcome??

Thanks for the sentiment guys, but it was my fault... heck, i was so gung ho on finding what i needed, i didnt take my usual amount of due diligence when proceeding. I vetted the pictures with a picture search engine, but he by passed it by changing the pictures slightly. Anyways, my banking institutions fraud officer is trying to get the money back for me, but im not holding my breath. She knows what banking institution it went to, and is looking into exactly where for me....

And ive purchased many items off that site, and never been burned... my first was a Ruger 10/22T for just over 6 hun. That was a big leap of faith, but turned out perfect. The bulk of the peeps in our circle are great guys, there are just a few, and I dont believe this guy was "one of us" at all, but a troll....

I see it as a relatively cheap lesson, although now a days every buck counts, as there doesnt seem to be enough of them! My search for the elusive Tasco 705 continues, its like an obsession already! My Ruger #1 needs one to be complete ;-)

Ginnz!

Man...that sucks, Ive been burned on CGN on an optic years ago..still stings but it was only $200. Im now much more diligent and usually don't buy from guys with less then 20 positive deals.

Cheers!!

You got to wonder what provokes people to pull this sort of crap. I am pretty trusting and have yet to be burned in an internet deal but it still irks me to see one of our own get ripped off. Hope this works out for you!

They are thieves and are looking for low risk high reward scams.
