My Shadow does not like the AIM "147"gr but loves the BDX 124gr bullets. Pictures...

Been using VV320, Fed Primers and the BDX 124gr bullets and my Shadow loves them.

I know and read some use 147 and others disagree but I thought I'd switch to the AIM "147"gr bullet for a softer recoil and less powder for the up coming Waterloo L-3 and Provincial Match BUT the accuracy out of my Shadow is horrible especially out at 37 meters. :puke:

Came back from the range today and chronied my 147gr load:

Lo - 945
Hi - 973
Av - 956
ES - 27.88
SD - 10.86

Power Factor - 140 PF

Two targets place out at 24 meters and the other 37 meters:

Windy at the range today but at 24 meters, no support, there was no drop in POI from POA for the 147's but a 4" drop for the 124's but the 124's did group better.

Out at 37 meter - supported/ benched, there was a constant wind, the AIM 147's was all over the paper :puke:. But the BDX 124's did very well, 4 out of 5 stayed on paper and was tight. The drop from POA was about 6.5"

I guess I'll have to live with a snappier recoil for better bullet perfomance.
 
I've just started playing with my new tuned Shadow and discovered that it doesn't really like the BDX stuff. It's IPSC accurate enough but not great. Some old American Eagle I had lying around would group into less than 1/2 the size. The local guys here steered me away from the AIM stuff; shotgun pattern was the description.

There is a 147gr bullet and then there are crappy AIM bullets...
 
Hmmmm.
I seem to get decent accuracy out of the Aim 147s with VV N320.
I doubt it is the bullet. I'd play with crimp, oal and load weights a bit - unless of course you are perfectly happy with the 124s.

The weight consistancy is not good with this batch from AIM. I grabbed a handful and weight them with a digital scale, anywhere from 149 down to 145 gr. BDX is consistant at 123.5gr with the handful I grabbed from the bag.

Yes, going to have to play with the OAL and crimp, maybe. I loaded up 3.8gr of VV320 and OAL of 1.090". I'm going to drop the grn down 3.6 and that should give me 135 PF.

Honestly... I could live with todays accuracy results from 5 to 20 yards max. So that'll be good for the indoor matches that have their stages maxed out to about 16 yards.

For now I'll stick to my 124 load for the up coming level 3 matchs. But I do prefer the softer recoil from the 147's... when will BDX start producing their 147's?
 
Hmm... if the weights aren't consistent, perhaps the diameter isn't either. Maybe you may not be getting great obturation with some of them so that they don't engage the rifling as good as they should. Might be interesting to take a micrometer to a bunch of them, just to see.

Grabbed 10 AIM 147 bullets and the diameter is a consistant 0.356" but the length of the bullet... :eek: anywhere from 0.682" to 0.668", nothing consistant... well afew measured 0.670" but that's about it.

THere WILL be a 147gr BDX Jacketed bullet.

I have some targets I should have snapped a picture of from the last Bullseye session. I used my Gk Tanfoglio Stock2 9mm with the loaded BDX bullet/ Combat masters 124gr ammunition. I rarely shoot this particular pistol, and use it for back up and a loaner. Standing at 20y most rounds in the black with a couple flyers. Excluded the called flyers they were nearly all touching. I will post the pic when I get my 2010 Hyundai back....it is getting a new transmission.:(
 
what PF are you making with the 124gr bdx? I prefer the 147gr bullet, but much better shooters than me (Angus, Matt Mink, and I think Adam Tyc) all use 124gr bullets,..as does Eric Grauffel in his stock2. I know that Max Michel uses 147gr out of his sigs, as does Dave sevigny and Bob vogel out of there Glocks.

- Average 1092 fps with chrony 10 feet out

- Mixed Brass
- Fed. #100 Primers
- Slight Flattening of the primers, could be because the Fed's are soft primers. Case shows no sighs of over pressure.

I prefer the recoil from the 147's but need to find or wait for some good quality products. Hopefully by the end of this year and get ready for 2012.
 
common sense tells me to use the 124gr for consistancy, and timing of the gun. My spoiled inner child tells me the 147gr is what I want, as I have been using it for 3-4 years. I can use either and notice little to no difference in scores. Mags feel lighter, gun feels lighter, but I feel there is more muzzle rise with the 124gr BDX as opposed to the 147gr. PF are nearly identical in the mid 135-137range.
