My SKS extractor can't be punched out.

Anyone know any tricks to get it to loosen up? It seems to me that all my cosmo filled guns have pins that are way too hard to punch out.

I had the same issue. I had to make a wooden block that would securely hold it in place and I punched it out. It was the hardest pin to punch I have encountered yet.

If it's working fine then don't mess with it. If you think you need to clean it out, just hose it down with some spray solvent.

If it's broken and needs to be replaced, using a larger hammer like a small sledge is usually better than hitting it harder with a small hammer.

I had the same issue, drilled a half inch hole in a small piece of 2x4, clamped the bolt onto the wood and wood to the workbench, got a steel flat head punch almost the same dies at the pin (slightly smaller) and have the punch a couple of good whacks with a steel hammer...a little extra persuasion and it popped out. Wasn’t as hard to do the next time.

I also found that using a piece of 2X4 with hole drilled into it also worked good. But I also traced the outlay of bolt onto board and used a Dremel, so bolt fits snugly in the 2X4. No clamping needed.

No reason to strip the bolt every time you clean it. Just spray it and soak it. Keeps it tight and won't permanently loosen the fitment of the bolts parts.
If you're cleaning a cosmo filled gun then fine, but after that's done leave it be.

Took mine out to put a Murray spring in it a couple of years ago.I remember I had to work at it.i think there are a few videos one from Murray s online.

Just spray it with carb cleaner and the crud will melt out. If you need to replace the pin, soak it for a few days in solvent and use a flat punch with a heavy hammer.

Just put a pair of gloves on even the dollar store dish washing gloves and use a can of brake rotor cleaner . from what I know you never want any oil in the firing pin chamber of an sks . a little coating on the outside of the bolt and the rails it rides on . oil inside the firing pin chamber can cause the bolt to collect powder and get gummed up and cause a slam fire . the firing pin should free float when you shake the bolt.

use a good quality starter punch to unstick the pin and then proceed with regular punch. The starter punch is tapered and thus much stronger than the regular ones. It would also help to prepare the part by degreasing and applying some penetrating oil to the extractor pin
