Yes, it's a tacticool conversion.. so hate if you'd like to.. but it's fun to shoot.

Just added the rear rail and the Magpul AFG foregrip today. still need to get that gas tube cover put on... pretty nervous on knocking that pin out and would just like to buy one of the premade ones from Tapco.

yea haha, that gas tube is a ##### if you don't have the right tools... Also SKS are made to be roughed up don't be afraid to give it a good wack !
 
Yeah, that gas tube pin is tough. Make sure you have a good solid steel punch (mine got bent in the process, that's how hard you have to hit it) and a good solid work surface. I think the pin goes one direction too, from the right side to the left side (best Google this). The pin will be unusable afterwards, I just used a nail and one hammered back in cut it with a Dremel. The ATI Strikeforce stock I have has quite a "bow" to it, and to seat the action back in the stock I had to use bar clamps (with soft plastic jaws), it would be very hard to get it in by hand.
 
I like those stocks for the SKS, I also am thinking of getting one of the Archangel stocks whenever they are available.
 
best feature out of the whole setup is the Magpul AFG.. feels so comfortable shooting. (wanted the AFG2, but I was lucky to even find a AFG in stock locally)
 
U just need a little patience and a couple basic tools to switch the gas tube cover, place the cover on something solid(steel) and slowly keep tapping on the pin with a punch or nail- one end of the pin is larger diameter then the other end so u have to make sure you are hitting it the right way. It takes quite a few hits to get it out- be careful not to enlarge the pin hole when tapping, once it's out replace the new cover and tap in the new pin small end first, once in place file off both ends to keep it in place. Takes less then 45 min and u save $50 plus waiting a week for the parts. Also makes you feel good about learning to work on your own guns. Tons of videos on this conversion- good luck
 
I had to actually dremal the chit out oh the plastic cover. It would not allow the metal cover that goes over the one end that the pin goes back thru do to an excess of plastic not allowing the cover to line up to install the pin. Had to dremal the plastic to custom fit. And thennnnnn, the pin has to be perfectly flush or it will not slide into place. And after bashing the chit out of it I had to dremal the pin flush.

tapping?!?!? LOL I had to SLAM on mine... got it out tho now its all good.
 
The gas tube pin was easy to remove. Spray a little liquid wrench, let it sit for 15 min. Get a punch and tap it out. Now putting the same pin back in is another story. My original pin wouldn't fit so I had to improvise. I ended up using a small screw, cut the ends and used a dremmil to grind it down.
 
Put a steel vented handguard on it. Before you install it, spray it with Tremclad flat black for rust protection and to make it matte-looking. No SKS, tacticool or classic, looks perfect without a steel vented handguard.
