My SKS journal

no problem! I've dealt with him before. ordered some mags for my sks off him and then he ened up being out of stock so he called me and we had about a 20 minute chat lol. he's a great guy to deal with, but then again I've never ACTUALY bought anything from him lol. Again not trying to be a salesman but if you're looking for more mags let me know. i'm selling off my norc sks to get a nice russian that i will leave compleyely stock so i won't need mags.

Forgot to post a picture of the nut I had to weld on the inside of the trigger group for the pistol grip to bolt to. It's angled to be inline with the pistol grip. To make room for the nut I had to remove the spring under the trigger group and cut out a bit of the wood.

Nice job on the SKS. That's one of the nice things about these guns. They are priced reasonably enough to trick out as one sees fit. I wouldn't consider cutting or otherwise modding a $1000+ rifle but its a neat aspect of our hobby to be able to buy a good shooting SKS for less than $200 and then change it to suit your needs or experiment with it and have some fun at the range. There is no collector value to be concerned about (well not much for the most part).

Awesome. Please tell you've posted a how-to somewhere. I'm thinking I'll tackle this when I get back in country. I'd like to take a fiberglass SKS stock and try something similar as well.

just PM if you need any hints, I have not posted a how to anywhere

I finally got a chance to take the SKS out for a test drive and it performed great! No jams or issues whatsoever.
Here's a picture of the targets. FYI we found the table, chairs, and other garbage dumped in the middle of nowhere. After shooting we packed out more garbage than we brought in.

I found shooting it retracted manageable due to the lack of recoil (unlike a pistol grip shotgun), but definitely not as comfortable as shooting extended of course. As you can see, this was more a test of function than accuracy. :)

What better accessory to the SKS than a matching color jeep. They're both cheap, easy and inexpensive to mod, and made for abuse. haha

Jwan320,
I like the concept, and since you were going for the combat look
put the bayonet back on. Don't cut the lug off. Do the Weaver
Converta-mount install (best in my opinion) and try out a red dot.
The Bushnell will be to long, require a shell deflector and you will
loose the ability to use the strippers. Again nice job. Esque

Jwan320,
Check out the sticky SKS: optics, sights and mounts,
page 3 post #25. If you go with this set up, mount
the base flush with the top of the receiver and flush
with the rear of the receiver, use the Weaver 48310
mount and you will end with about .080" clearance
between the bottom of the mount and top of receiver,
about as low as you can get. esque
