I've been tinkering with this thing since I got it off the EE. As I've used and shot it, I've been tweaking it up to where I want it. It came to me minus the cleaning rod, and wooden upper handguard, neither or which were wanted for my purposes anyway. I wanted a comfortable carry rifle for deer that was handy & accurate. Age taking it's toll on the eyesight, I'd planned to put glass on it. After extensive reading on the posts here, I decided to go with a fixed mount (made my own out of 1/8" aluminum angle iron) tapped into the frame. I'd first mounted a red dot, but it didn't give me the resolution that I'd wanted. I hunted around for a compact scope to replace the dot and found one on optics EE. My last chore was to remove the mounting points for the bayonet and the cleaning rod, as they tended to snag on bush and brush when I was moving through the woods. I may remove the foresight all together at some point down the road, and if I'm feeling particularly "tacticool", add a muzzle brake. The final hurdle was the fact the I was shooting low at 50 yds, and I couldn't raise my reticle any further. Solution? If you look close, you may notice that I shaved the scope base down a heavy 1/16" at the front to zero at the heel. This tilts the scope down, and should correct the problem. Thus far though, of the 3 types of soft point ammo I've tried, my best groups were with the "China Sport" non-reloadable; second best was Prvi Partizan, and poorest group was S&B. When I get to the range and do my final sighting-in, I'll post pics. For now, here's what I ended up with. Observations and comments are welcome.
