I finished my lightweight SLR build. The SLR receiver set is ok. I found some of the tolerances fairly tight but not sure if it was just the parts I chose. I couldn't use my v7 safety button but one from a Geissele LPK fit fine. My v7 ambi safety just barely fit and its very tight and takes quite a bit of effort to turn. The hole for the bolt catch roll pin seemed fairly tight to me. I went with a JP captured buffer spring but noticed the buffer tube/stock I chose did not screw in far enough to retain a buffer pin had I used one.

The trigger pack is interesting. I think it's easier to align things and quite easy to push the pins thru, didn't even need a punch. You have to do the install backwards though with the hammer first then the trigger. It can take a couple tries to get the springs to sit right when pushing the trigger pack in.

These are the parts I chose:

SLR receiver
Brigand Handguard
Faxon 20 inch pencil 5.56 barrel
JP ultra low mass BCG
Sabertube buffer/stock
Odin works rifle gas tube
JP captured buffer spring
Superlative arms 6.25 adjustable gas block
Phase 5 v3 bolt catch
Raptor LT charging handle
Magpul K2 plus grip
Geissele g2s trigger
V7 titanium trigger/hammer pins
V7 titanium grip screw
V7 furion titanium brake
V7 dust cover and titanium rod
V7 titanium ambi safety
V7 titanium magazine release
Phase 5 winter trigger guard
Scalar works rmr mount
Type 2 1 moa rmr

The weight of my build with optic and mount is 5.5 pounds. Without optic and mount was 5.3lbs. Could probably shave off a little more weight going with a lighter weight bolt catch, trigger guard, grip, charging handle, and gas block. Would probably be about 2-3 oz off with those changes but wanted an adjustable gas block and I like those parts. I was hoping to get sub 5 pounds and I do think its doable but wasn't willing to sacrifice on a few things. Here are some pics and of pics of it compared to a modern varminter and wk-180c.

Very light weight Mr. Hunter, impressive. Let us know how the 20" Gunner performs when you get some rounds through it! Sabertube and Brigand HG are friggen featherweights, admittedly I'm not a big fan on the aesthetics of them but can't argue with the result. Do you know what the cost of your build was?

I'm doing a lightweight SPR build using some oddball components that I haven't seen mentioned here before, just need my damn SLR receiver to show up now. I did the unspeakable and added up costs along with weight last night, I'm sitting at $3200 for a 5.7lb naked weight built around a pretty high end barrel.

It was almost 3k in parts minus the receiver set and optic. Lots of reports of sub moa performance with the faxon pencil barrels. I've got some spare long range scopes sitting around so might throw one on to see how it does with my bulk 223.

I would like to hear (maybe in another thread) what you think of the three firearms you have pictured in comparison to one another. Its a bit of an apples to oranges situation but still curious.

I would have to say the SLR is my favorite due to the flexibility and how you can essentially customize it to fill whatever role you want for it. The modern varminter is a nice a piece of work and unlike the modern hunter I had, its been reliable and accurate. However due to the SLR, I would skip it all together. For the cost of the modern varminter you can get a much higher end build in a SLR unless you don't want to build it yourself or you like the side charger.

The Wk 180c is no where as nice as either of the above but also costs a quarter of the price and at the end of the day they all go bang. I think the wk 180c will be limited in its accuracy due to the trigger and limited barrel options. The varminter although nice, I think is overpriced. For a lightweight blaster the wk 180c fits the role perfectly. For accuracy, I think you could achieve more or better accuracy at a lesser cost with the SLR.

Made another slr build. The slr receiver set weighs 1.42 lbs. I tried putting my lightweight upper on the lower without titanium parts and there was almost no difference.

This build has the following and weighs almost twice as much with optic and bipod.

S&J dimpled barrel, gas block, gas tube
Lmt sopmod stock, buffer, castlenut and endplate
Phase 5 bolt catch and trigger guard
Geissele ssa-e
Radian talon safety fit much better
Norgon Ambi mag release
Jp captured buffer
Magpul k2+
Geissele handguard had to cut off anti rotation tabs
Rainier arms bcg
Lantac dragon brake
Lost my dust cover
