I'm toying with the idea to make one of these sniper carbine set ups on my early Chinese SKS. And if all goes well, my wifes later model Chinese SKS as well.

(pic fix by Klunk.)

I can see that it is a Mosin PU sniper scope, but I have no idea what the scope mount is.

I would also need the cheek rest.

What I like about this set up is:

- It's original and designed for the SKS ergonomics.

- Scope is not mounted on the wiggly receiver cover.

- Does not interfere with cleaning.

- Scope does not interfere with iron sights use.

- Does not cover the serial numbers on the left side of the receiver like some other mounts do.

- Scope is out of the way for ejecting brass.

- Scope is out of the way for stripper clip use.

So I need to know where I can find the scope, the mount (or something close to it), and the cheek rest.

I'm not concerned about the trigger guard at this time.

So my fellow SKS addicts put your heads together and give me some sources/ideas. :)

Similar to what i was proposing but rather than the scope being where you have it, I would use a mosen nagant 91/30 PU scope and mount.

this would keep the feeding for the stipper clips and removes the fear of having your scope and base being hit by ejecting cartriges.

Actually if you look close you will see on the right side it will be clear of the ejected brass as the sks ejects anywhere from the 12 o'clock to the 2 o'clock position. And also allow for the use of stripper clips.

I find the original PU scope mount too high for me on the SKS, hence my preference for this design. :)

I have seen it before, but I just can't figure what that mount is.

Contact sksman dot com for the correct stock. It is his fiberglass stock with blade cut out if you have a russian but if your's is chinesse you will need the spike stock. Then buy the pu style mount from this guy accumounts dot com. Now bed the fiberglass stock and do a trigger job.
Volia!
You know have a sniper carbine that can hit a 10" x 10" metal gong @ 200 meters all day long. I call mine;

I like it too. Some of the SKS chinweld setups look ridiculous, but that looks intelligent. I suppose you could down an AK detachable side mount and reattach the rings low.

Is it just me or does something look a little strange with that trigger guard? Did they put in a better trigger or something? Almost looks like the rear of the trigger guard was cut off and a double set strigger were installed. I'm probably wrong though as I'm not sure this is possible with an SKS.

Ya... does look like they reversed the image.... you can see the safety which you shouldn't and you can't see the bolt charging handle... which you should.
When I first looked at it I though it was a "lefty" setup. There was no way a righty was shootin that thing.. he'd have to lay his head across the stock. :D

Edit: On third look that ain't the safety I'm seeing.... what the heck is that at the back of the trigger guard???

Just wondering, but it looks like the scope is on the right, or they've reversed the image.

yes, the pic was reversed, see the front strap ring , its on the right when it should be on the left .

yes, you are right about the cocking handle .

what behind the trigger ? its a ambidextrous safety lever , i have seen those lever(pic) on other SKS .

THATS BETTER!!!

now someone start making that mount....lots of repro PU scopes around...

I like it!!

Would PU scopes have enough horizontal adjustment to account for mounting it on the left hand side? They weren't originally designed to be that far over.

I had probelms with a yugo mauser that had a poor drill and tap job done. The front mounts were a few degrees out from the rear mounts and I barely had enough horizontal adjustment to compensate for it. (figgen bubba who butchured it:mad:).

Good point.

I can't quite make it out in the pic, but I wouldn't be surprised if this mount had a shim adjustment. :)
