Well no one accused me of being sane and besides...I am the only kid on the block with one...actually the only kid in town!! So for some time I wanted a BP mortar, but not just any one. I wanted one that resembled a m2 60mm mortar. So with some digging I found this little beauty..

Now here is where the fun begins..this is a original m5 Canadian issue mortar bipod/cradle assembly..

The tube is a dummy one and its missing the base...but no problem at all...cause a fellow member in here sent me a pic of his kit with a original base and cup/ball assembly which I now have to duplicate to the best of my ability..

Now for the barrel assembly. The dummy tube is way to thin from even looking at it in the pictures. So a oilfield friend of mine came in handy and I got a piece of frac/perf pipe from him. Its rated for a good number of PSI,2 inch inside diameter which just happens to be about right with a golf ball measuring in at about 1.750inches.....So with a little patching just like shooting black powder rifles the golf ball will fit all snuggly for launch.BUT...the od of the frac pipe is to small for the cradle so I found a piece of pipe that has a ID of GASP...60mm exactly...Guess what...the od of the frac pipe and the inside diameter of the second pipe....MATCH!!! 2 pieces of seamless pipe that will make up the barrel, build a base plate and cup assembly, test fire the barrel sand bagged in of course b4 putting it all together....and its a new gopher wacker..
Beer can barrel to follow....but here are a few more pics for ya...

.......More pics to come as the build progresses...

Gopher, yotes, and low flying airplane beware.....bwuuahahaha can't wait to see it. Will it be legal to use during duck and goose season? ;)

...Its kinda a big 10 guage if loaded with marbles....Actually I wouldnt want to see what it would do if it was loaded with marbles....oh hell who am I trying to kid!!

At one point I was using a BREN tripod as a shooting platform for gophers. I rigged up an oak plank with the butt fittings and mounted that to the tripod as a platform for my rifle rest. This worked great in the heavily infested gopher patches where you didn't need to move too often. It was a much better rest than either a sandbag on the corner of the truck box or a portable shooting tripod.
