I bought a British 1942 No.4 Mk.1 Lee Enfield sporter that had a scope mount on it. I planned to put on a scope, synthetic stock, and probably duracoat the whole thing camo or something like that.

First I scoped it with a Bushnell x6-24 mil-dot:

Then recently I bought some wood stocks for it from Marstar. Guess my plans have changed. Here it is with the bottom stock on and the top handguards just sitting on it(I am missing the stock bands, swivels, and front sight guard.

Then I decided I'd take off the metal parts from my 1945 Longbranch just to see what it would look like.

So now that I know I like it quite a bit with the stock and everything all done up, I have to buy both swivels, all the stock bands, a front sight guard, a rear sight, and all the screws to go along with them.

Yeah, I know, crappy cell phone pics.

The barrel looks a bit short. Is it chopped just in front of the foresight? For no reason that I can think any good, that happened to a lot of sporters, including one that I own.

Yep, I was quite disappointed when I realized that I couldn't put a bayonet on it. :(

What would cutting an inch or less off the barrel do?

Looks great. I've got a lithgow SMLE sporter that I've had since I was 16 years old. I was thinking of geting rid of it but maybe I'll look into getting some wood for it instead.

So at the gun show today I got most of what I need. Now I just need the front barrel band(got the middle and rear) and I need the front swivel. That's it! Oh, I forgot, I need the rear sight too.

David K...I hesitate to say anything to disappoint you...but with that inch cut off the barrel, it'll never look right in full wood. :(

Find another sporter with an uncut, excellent barrel, and matching numbers and transfer all the goodies over to it...;)
