my stevens doesnt cycle

i have a stevens model 77 that wont cycle shells. i load the shells into the tube, pump it and they stay in there. Is there anyway i can correct this? or do i have to bring it to a smith? how much would a job like that cost?

Your shell stop is bent. I just fixed one. Take the trigger assembly out of the gun. (one screw and one pin) The shell stop is on the left side when gun is inverted (it will likely fall out) bend it slightly AWAY from the interior of the gun. (to the receiver wall) Re-assemble and test it will take some monkeying around with the SLIGHT bends to make it work. Other causes can be dented mag tube, dirty mag tube, dirty follower, but most are shell stope issues.
