I got my rifle back alittle while ago, after having some modding done by Suprathepeg. He formed up and installed a nice fiberglass cheek riser on the stock so I can now use an optic.

All I can say is the 858 is now MUCH better for shooting with a red dot. Before I had to practically rest my chin on the top of the stock - now I can snug it up firmly and have a good line of sight. This allows for comfortable and steady positioning as well as the ability to do quick follow up shots. Before this I had to float my cheek away from the stock for a good line of sight, and needed to reposition with every follow up shot. Now a quick succesion of shots is possible due to being able to keep the stock comfortably and firmly placed.

I don't have my camera at the moment, so here's a pic from a previous thread:

Suprathepeg thanks for the well done work - it's very enjoyable to shoot now.

This is Steiner's rifle except his has a better dot on it now.

nice work sean ... steiner can you post a better pic with your better dot ? please give details on the dot .

Did you make the riser yourself or did you adapte from something else

I layed fiberglass over a simple mold and then worked it to fit his rifle. It was just a trial to see how it would work and Steiner was kind enough to stick his neck out. I just got an order of Kydex in so I'm gonna make a final out of Kydex that should fit the stock a bit better. I may make a few more too...

Yeah, Suprathepeg did a good fitting of the riser. It was nice and adjustable for a couple of different shooters - my 13yr old liked it better than using iron sights. The other optic was a Bushnell Holosight. It's out on loan now but I'll post some pics when it returns.
