My take on the modern 357 do it all setup...

This thread inspired me to give the micro a test run on the 1894P.
I'd heard of chopping the weaver base somewhere on the intranets before, and I had a spare one kicking around so...
Cheek weld is still good, the irons are unobscured and very useable with the aimpoint removed...and the mount still catches two receiver screws and is strong. The weaver rail comes with six holes to match-up with the 1894,336 and 1895 series, so depending on where you make the cut you have a few options for eye-relief {not that it's an issue with an aimpoint...they are very forgiving}
Is it as aesthetically pleasing as the XS scout rail? Well obviously not but at a quarter of the weight and 15$ it's a pretty easy and solid set-up IMHO.
I'll shoot it this week-end and post a report.

You're saving weight and making this work for you, I think its a great idea what you did.
I thought about the red dot thing for a while...and as "modern" as I tried to go...for some reason I just have this strange reservation about putting anything battery operated on a lever. I know I know, I've already put a modern scout scope and ghost rings blah blah blah but thats just me.

Well I can't take the credit for it as it's definitely not my idea...and it's pretty butt-ugly to boot so I'm glad I didn't spawn it!

I was of the same way of thinking as you regarding red-dot optics until I finally owned an Aimpoint. They are without a doubt f'ing bomb-proof, and battery life is amazing. I had more than one cheap red-dot take a dump on me in the past...sure wish I would have just went with an aimpoint from the start.

I have both a vortex sparc and TRS-25, both have held up well for me, but those are for other guns, this one is staying electronic free for me.
I'm sure this setup will be lightning quick for you regardless of what it looks like. Honestly, its not ugly, it looks just like how I figured a red dot would look on a lever...out of place but probably very functional!

Your rifle looks handy to me.
Im doing the same thing to a mare's leg I put a full stock on it and just have to get it drilled and tapped she will be my go to rifle this fall fore Haida Gwaii deer this fall
