OK, so I had the chance to check out the LMT Defender 2000 today, very nice carbine. I was told that LMT uses taper pins but I gotta be honest, these looked like small hole straight pins...can anyone clarify this, also this gun had the enhanced bolt group, any further issues with the 14.5" barrels?

Ray

yeah the enhanced bolt is nice, can you offer any advice on my post below on cleaning and springs?

Ray -- the only two LMT uppers I have, have taper pins.

Plus I brought in a bunch of the early LMT (pre white marking) back when they where relatively unk. and they had taper pins

I'll get my friend to drag his gun back in and take some pictures but like I said these shared no resemblance to my Colt 6921 upper.I am damn sure they were straight, these inconsistencies in companies other than Colt are driving me nuts. I guess like Pat Roger's says...if they don't "have" to, they won't.

I took a look at the FSB pins on the LMT I picked up and they sure look tapered, just puting a caliper up to the ends they are nearly .020 different in diameter. I don't have the burning desire to drift them out and see for sure.....

Necro thread Redux! I spy with my little eye an LMT factory upper 14.5" that does NOT have taper pins, they are straight and the barrel is not parked under the FSB...I could care less as this thing rocks but me thinks some guys don't know the difference between straight and taper pins. I will post pics...lets see some of those taper pins...FWIW mine came out without much coaxing.

Here ya go:

Tapered pins on a Colt LE6920:

LMT:

Most noticeably the Colt taper pins protrude beyond the FSB, while LMT's pins are flush with the surface of the front sight.

not to sound ignorant, but why does it matter? checking my lmt now..

It doesn't dude...at all, that's why it's an obsession:evil: Some of us drink the Kool Aid and like a gun as close in specification to the ones the "Big Kids" use. So long as the sight is pinned you are GTG, I should think we should be more concerned with steel quality and destructive testing than pins...:weird:
