I'm looking to upgrade the scope too.

Very nice , well done. Great all round cartridge for the area.
Personal went through same ideal but a factory Brno 600 series was the gun
 
One thing to consider on the one rifle concept is the availability of ammo or components. 3006 is probably tops on that list. If you want to make a couple of dozen more, I'm sure you would find quick sales for them.

Are you going to polish the metal very much before it’s blued? That butt plate is absolutely terrific, it deserves a beautiful set of recessed sling swivels, or something to that effect.

No, the action screws aren't supposed to be white. I'll have to catch up on that next time I'm doing bluing.
I still have to do some fiddling to get the rear detachable peep to fit, but for the most part, it's done.
Just in time for the moose hunt, coming up in 2 months. Seems like a fitting way to Christen it, with a bull moose.
Off to the range on the long weekend to zero and see how it shoots.
 
Turned out very nicely. I personally would forgo the receiver sight and go for another, smaller scope (1-4 ish) on QD rings.

That's true but there's always something bigger or faster or both. The 300WM will trump the 7mag and the 338WM will trump the 300.

Sometimes enough is enough and the 30-06 is more than enough and is a classic old cartridge perfectly suited to this classic rifle.

A 7x57 would have better but ........ :)
