My vegan girlfriend wants to come hunting with me

"somewhat of a vegan"???. I question whether you know what a vegan is. Choosing to eat locally harvested meat over commercially farmed is no kind of vegan.

The reason I say somewhat a vegan is because I honestly lack a better term. How would you have me describe someone that doesn't eat animal products except for the odd occasion of something hunted? Honestly curious. When I say odd occasion, she only eats meat that I hunted about once a month.

Veganish . :)

Not vegan, vegans won’t even eat honey as it’s a by product of the honey bee. She’s more of a vegetarian that eats ethically harvested meat, would she eat small farm raised meat? Like if you raised a couple spring lambs on your own land and you killed and butchered it yourself? There’s not much difference between hunting and this with the exception of costs associated with raising livestock on a small scale. What about farm eggs vs. commercial eggs?

Time to post a lamb getting whacked....

One of my best buds is a vegan that hunts. In fact he is on this here forum as well. Some vegans are ok I guess.

Hope your hunting trip with the gf is a success!

The animosity in this thread is ridiculous. Did you wind up taking her out? How did it go?

Had a vegetarian friend in college. His only beef (pun intended) was with the way industrial farms raise, slaughter, and process meat. But he had no qualms about eating moose harvested by a hunter. Ate more burgers than anyone, iirc.

Anyway, only point I want to make is not every vegetarian or vegan is evil and out to get you. And not every wife or girlfriend has an ulterior motive when she wants to share one of your interests.

Thank you. Worded it better than I could have. This thread had me rolling my eyes.

Took her out yea! Went the day prior for ruffed grouse and got a few with my old Iver Hercules 16 gauge which she loved. The day after we creeped around a big pasture and found a good eater buck with a doe. Instant kill with the 7mm magnum. She did let one little tear go when I shot haha I felt bad for her. She seemed better after I explained that he lived a good life and didn't even hear the shot, much less feel it.

She watched me dress him and drag to the road, even tried a little piece of backstrap that night! Was a great day out with her.

Right on OP, regardless of if she decides to eat meat or not at least she got to see what this end of the spectrum is and how it differs from factory farmer meat.

I just showed someone how to kill and process chickens a couple days ago, I think it was an eye opener for her. She eats meat but has never had to kill an animal let alone pluck and gut one, she did well with it though I think she was a bit dazed by the odd part of it. I’ll give her credit, she did chop one of the five roosters heads off by the woodshed. Her and my wife’s cousin went home with a rooster for their help as well lol.

Like most others we were waiting for this chapter . . . are there more to come?
Time to introduce her to rimfire shooting . . . having her fire the 7 mm RM may strain the relationship.

Hahah I'd have to agree there. More grouse hunting is in order for sure. I'll be doing Christmas with her folks this year so will have to get her old man to dig out a few 22's after we go through presents! She grew up around it but never had the slightest interest until I came around haha. Not looking to change her but I'll absolutely jump at the chance to show her a bit of this lifestyle.
