I hunt alone for all the same reasons. My wife worries when I;m in the wilderness alone, which I frequently am. So 3 years ago she bought me the Delorme messenger, Since then she never worries, I have it set to send my location every hour, and she can check and message me to see how my day is going. IT's peace of mind as well. There is no cell reception where I go, but knowing SAR help is only a button push away if I need it is nice to know.

What are the costs of that? I found the unit for $350ish, but don't see what the subscription is worth?
 
If anyone has a Bluetooth compatible Garmin gps you can download a free Garmin app to your smart phone and send an email link to anyone so they can follow. It's called Garmin Connect and the tar king function is called Livetrack, I routinely use it so my wife know where I'm at. I have the Garmin 64s gps, it's pretty cool. It receives text and email messages as well.
 
I pay 34.95/month during the times I will not be in the bush much. That gives me 200 messages and 200 tracks per month. for 54.95/month you get 250 messages and 1000 tracks. and for 74.95/month you get unlimited, If you don't plan on using the track and message feature much you can pay 19.95/month and that gives you the S.O.S. and a pay .95/message and .25 per track

I always hunted and fished with my Dad. he passed away in 2014. Now I hunt and fish with his spirit and never feel alone. He is always with me.
 
Had my own land, hunted deer, bear and everything else alone and did a camp hunt with some friends for moose. Then, 30 years ago I met a guy at work. He was an ex-miner in the Yukon, U of T grad, redneck with several hundred acres in prime Ontario deer country and an accomplished artist. I said, "You hunt?", "yup", "wanna join us moose hunting?", "yup". We spent the next few years building an awesome moose and deer hunting crew. A core of four of us together for 30 years and anywhere from 1-4 others who came in and out over those years. It was an excellent camp; no whining, hard work evenly shared, no BS, lots of laughs and lots of success. He passed suddenly two years ago. As it turns out, he was the glue that held it together. The group has gone for a s$&@ since. One core guy left last year and another core guy isn't coming this year. This will be my last moose hunt with them.

It certainly is simpler hunting alone.
 
This season will be tough with the recent loss of my son this past May.........he was my outdoor companion since he was old enough to follow me.I'm going to shoot a deer with his gun on the same trail he took his first deer at age 12 then sprinkle some of his ashes on the spot.So many fond outdoor memories......this I have to do alone...........Harold

Condolences man, that sounds like a great homage to him for sure. Best of luck on the hunt.
 
I hunt alone for most of the same reasons.

I grew up hunting with my dad and a few of his partners and the occasional cousin. Well Dad and his friends have all passed now and the only guy I can hunt with is my brother. We both set up camps in the same spot and solo hunt. Meet at the campfire in the evenings eat and drink beer.

I spent 10 years working as a forester and know the woods, and 29 years in the army I know feild craft. Most of the guys I have gone out with for a hunt make too much noise, don't know how to track or read sign, go too fast or too slow, and ##### and moan too much, and can't cook, and don't have any kit.

Best new partner I had was a mate of mine retired from the British army. But he lives in the UK.

There are a few other guys I've hunted with that have potential, but I don't have a lot of patience to teach any more.

And I like solo hunting.

It all depends who you hunt with. I hunted with a guy in my 20’s and early 30’s who I knew was an ####### and would poach at the first opportunity. I hunted with him because I thought I needed him to know how to hunt as my father never hunted with me – I thought I had no other option. After several really really really bad experiences – including him drunk driving into the side of a mountain, a sow grizzly wandering near camp where buddy wanted to “get a better look” at her, and the final nail in the coffin – back stabbing and rumor mongering about total BS in order to demean me in front of others – I gave up and started hunting alone. I did so for close to 15 years. There were a few close scrapes while hunting alone where I could have ended up being found by where the crows circled, but I enjoyed it fully. I don’t regret it at all. I learned lots about myself. It has been twenty years since I hunted with the #######. One year ago through work contacts I met new hunting buddy’s, and had a awesome hunt last fall. The difference was that these guys were not just honourable during the hunt when the had to be / risked getting caught. They are honourable guys in general. I am really looking forward to our moose /elk hunt this November.

If you really want to see what people are like go hunting with them.I've hunted with many once and as well don't have the time nor patience to train more.People not showing up on time to hunt or help cut meat or pay for gas.Seasonal "friends" that only showed up in Nov so you would cut up their deer and leave the scraps for me to dispose of etc.........Harold
 
We've been hunting together so long that one pretty well knows what the other will do under any circumstances though we both carry handheld radios for actual voice communication in the bush when absolutely necessary.
We take turns as 'the dog' and the 'on watch' when pushing deer.
We fill both our tags yearly so I can honestly say that it works for us.
Knowing our hunting area like the backs of our hands is also a big asset.
We can pretty well predict which escape route a spooked deer will take and the one on watch will be the reception committee.
 
Same here ......like a trained wolf pack alternating pushing and blocking escape routes. Some prospects in the past were lazy and didn't want to walk or take their turn pushing so i didn't bust myself for them either. They avoid thick cover where the game is bedded because it is easier to go around so having them push was a WOT.I only BG hunt with my 2 remaining sons and a longtime hunting partner. I've been scoped by idiots in the past ,so I'm not comfortable hunting with new people and the lack of muzzle control exhibited..I enjoy wildlife watching......weasels approaching you or letting deer stroll right on by at point blank. I rarely go out when I couldn't have shot a deer if I wanted to.Harold
 
The pocket flasks and mickeys in hunting vests and guys in tree stands nursing on 26ers and 40 pounders and constantly doing the 'avoid muzzle shuffle' kinda sickened us off of new recruits.
The kids learn muzzle control from the 'die hard' and 'terminator' movies.
I like hunting with gals and guys I know didn't learn their gun safety from 'arnold'.
 
I've gone with friends and coworkers simply because I am new to it

I went hunting for turkey yesterday
Heard one but never saw one
Kind of disappointed but going back out Friday and or Saturday morning at a different location
