Back in '06 I bought my wife a basic Ruger 10/22 rifle and put the barreled action into a Choate synthetic, pistol grip stock and topped it off with a Bushnell 3200 Elite 2-7 scope. I then installed a Volquartsen target trigger, hammer and sear, added a Magnum Research bolt handle and auto bolt release as well as a synthetic bolt stop/buffer. I also added a stainless
extended mag release to finish the job. (Or so I thought.)
This combination worked OK, but the Choate stock was tight in the mag well
and releasing the standard RUGER mag was a #####. Extended mags pulled out
without problems though. The accuracy of this rifle was only average, and
nowhere near as good as my CZ 452's, but suited my wife fine as she didn't
get out to shoot it very often.
I fixed the accuracy problem with a change to a Boyd's Ross Thumbhole
laminate stock. No more black gun, flexi-flyer plastic crap stocks for me!
I then swapped the scope over to my Stevens 305F project and put
a fine old Weaver K4 with post recticle on the Ruger for trials.
A session at the range yesterday proved my hunch about the stock.
The rifle now shoots better than I can hold on a single sandbag and mag releases are flawless.
The rifle now looks and feels great, plus handles sweet.
Happy Wife, Happy Life!
