Summer is coming and I need to do something with my Wingmaster. I had for over a year now and done nothing with it. I got it has a project gun , but now I dont know if it's worthed to dump money in it.

Canada ammo Sells their Dominion Arms Grizzly Shotgun - 12.5" for $300
My Wingmaster is probly worth $200. I dont mind my wood grip but I NEED that shorty barrel for partridge hunting :D

Can I mod my wingmaster for less then what the Grizzly would cost ?
Maybe a bran new gun is a better Ideal ?
What do you Shotgun pro Suggest ?

Just buy a 14 inch Norc barel from Badboybeeson.
This way you will have 2 guns in one.Not sure if he has the 12.5 barels.

I was in the exact same position as you just a few weeks ago (I have a new wingmaster). With some recommendations from another member I decided to buy the Grizzly. The dlask barrel is built like a tank and is apparently heavy so carrying it around in the bush may get tiring. If a new 12.5 barrel will cost me as much as a new gun, I may as well go with the new gun.

If you're curious about the quality, the grizzly I got is pretty good. It has wear marks from the previous owner but the action is smooth.

i think i would keep the wingmaster and watch for a short barrel on the ee. do you want a 12 inch barrel or would you be satisfied with a cut down barrel at 18 inches as they can be had for 100 dollars as i bought a new factory barrel on sale for that amount last year . if you put a dlask barrel oh the wingmaster you will have to mill some wood out of the forend to get enough clearance .the dlask barrels are a heavy well made barrel and can be had with screw in chokes . do not cut that ribbed barrel on the wingmaster as that would be a mistake .

Nice wingmaster.
I'd leave the wingmaster as is and consider it money in the bank and then save what you need to buy a short clone from Canam or the E.E.
The clones are cheap and hold their value well.

I went the other way than you but could possibly end with the same result. Buy a 12.5 DA Grizzly take off the barrel, sell the dominion arms receiver for 150-200 (sold mine for $200). Then you are left with remington quality receiver and just put the 12.5 barrel onto it which essentially cost you 100$. I have had no trouble swapping the grizzly 12.5 barrel onto the remington receiver, despite some of the posts I have read.

Buzzard can you post a picture like this of your 12.5?
I haven't actually tried my 12.5 but I tried a few 14" clone barrels on several older 870 wingmaster and magnum receivers and they all looked like this..

Yes and no, bare in mind the griz to your door is the same price as the Dlask 12.5inch barrel. That said, if you want to mod beyond that it will cost you on both guns.

So realistically (IMHO) the question is: Is an old wingmaster with a Dlask prefferable to Griz. The answer is 'YES'.
Sink the money into the dlask, you could call it quits at that, and reuse your wood stocks, and have a super smooth 12, like this...

Modding the wood is easy, a little sandpaper, and the Dlask barrel is by far the way to go.

I Think that's probly the best option. Unless Grizzly barrel fit my wingmaster.
a $300 heavy barrel , even if it built like a tank barrel is not what I am looking for. I must have fired 200 shells in the last 5 years. 12 gauge is more for the Cabin and badass Look Then the range. At least thats how much I use a shotgun. I still 3 more in the Safe (Semi's and over under) and never use them.
My wingmaster is a Old one and it's only barrel for 2 3/4. Dosent take the 3"
Anyways I never fire a 3" shell in my life. Like I said shotgun are more for carrying around then for the use I make
Thanks for the tips guys.

Can-Down. First off I should clarify I guess that mine is a 870 Express not a Wingmaster, but as the barrels are all interchangeable I cannot see this being an issue. In your picture you are showing how the barrels is actually twisted off the vertical axis of the gun is that correct? Let me know what you have going on in that pic and ill get one of mine the same.

are you squaring the reciever to the table too? a bit of an indexing prob?

Candown,

Sorry this was a couple days in the making. First photo is the receiver as close to level on the table as I could get it (top of receiver is rounded on mine). Didnt have a square so I put that wooden box there for reference. Hopefully the picture shows, things are very much inline. The others show the gun with the factory 20'' rifle sighted barrel and the 12.5 grizzly barrel. Hope that helps,

Alex

Is an old wingmaster with a Dlask prefferable to Griz. The answer is 'YES'.

if you are carrying it in the bush, the answer is NO.

the Dlask barrel is not universally better. it is extremely overbuilt and beefy which is great from a durability perspective, but the downside is that it weighs as much as a full 28" barrel.

the chamber on my dlask barrel is also pitiful.

its a tossup really. if you want a working gun with a short barrel, pick up a Grizzly. if you want a more oldskool look with a bit more pride of ownership, build on your 2 3/4" Wingmaster. IMO both are good values for your money.

your wingmaster is worth more than $200.
vent ribbed barrel (2 3/4") is worth ~$80
complete receiver about $175
buttstock $25
forend $25

if you break it down into subcomponents and sell the internals, triggergroup, etc separately you might get a bit more.

personally, if i was in your shoes i would keep your original barrel for hunting, and look on the EE for a 14-18.5" barrel. add a mag extension, cut down the stock a bit, refinish, and mount a proper recoil pad in place of that plastic sh*t.

if you are carrying it in the bush, the answer is NO.

I'll argue that one with you. I have used mine for bunnies, and maybe its all the steak I eat, but it doesnt feel that heavy to me. Additionally the shortness means less overhand and less leverage than the extra 16inch that hangs past the end of the mag tube.

As for your chamber, its no where near as tidy as mine
