OP Rod
I'm thinking that my operating rod on my SA is DOA, over the weekend the operating rod popped off on ejecting, with the bolt open. I got it OP back on and fired the next round and it happened again. Is there anything else that would make this happen? I have not taken the OP off, bolt and area look fine? This is off an older SA Ser# 100###.

WOW!

Are they all copying Norinco manufacturing now...

Extractor coming out of the bolt LRB M1A
It has been awhile since I have posted, but have kept up.

This post is asking for anyone who has seen this problem and the solution. Perhaps Gus or one of you other experts can help.. I have never seen it before.

Here is the problem: A Jarhead friend of mine brought a M1A, LRB, receiver, GI barrel, all other parts GI. Original bolt is TRW. It came with the bolt still in the rifle, but disassembled as the extractor came out. The extractor came out while shooting, Atomic Ammo purchased from CMP. Originally I thought we had a bolt problem, but I thoroughly checked the bolt and found no problem.

I replaced the bolt with a SA GI bolt and checked the head space. Everything was OK.

Next, less than 30 rounds shooting the same ammo, and this bolt(SA) lost it's extractor.. The same way. Two bolts, two extractors.

I disassembled several of the loaded rounds and found that they were very consistent. 168 grain bullet, 41.5 grains of what appeared to be IMR4064 or 4895, but hard to tell due to being extruded powder. The primers appeared to be Remington 9 1/2. The cases are all LC or WCC.(Once fired supposedly)

I measured the cases, fired and unfired and found very little difference.

Does anyone have any ideas here??????? Going to fire my hand loads in the gun and see what happens, also going to fire one of my GI level M1As with the CMP ammo to see if I can duplicate the problem. Also going to check inside the chamber and the extractor recess with a bore scope this PM.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.. I thought I had seen it all, but this is new.

You're going to have the guys with lots of money say "the operator did something wrong for that to happen, but if it was Norc., it was poor QC due to commie slave-labour":p;)

Generally this happens when the shooter pulls the cocking handle back and to the right away from the receiver at the same time, or the op rod guide is off centre.

You can almost hear the wagons circling as every body assumes a defensive position LMFAO.
Bad luck for the guys involved, but even Farraris crash eh.
Shouldn't have had Chinese for supper, no other explanation, probably says as much in the warranty :)

I don't think that's true. Big difference between having the op rod come off and barrels shoot off. I had a trigger pin fail. Sent a note to SA with a few pictures. New one shows up in mail in 5 days. When your Norinco does the space shuttle Columbia and you end up blind you can go after communist China for satisfaction.

And guys who buy SAI and LRB are not rich. #### I have scopes that cost as much as an SAI. No I'm afraid the firearm hobby isn't inexpensive to do right. You can surround yourself with scabby milsurps and SKS rifles if you like but owning something nice costs money. If you don't have $2000 for a rifle I hope you are looking after your children properly or don't have any.

For 2000 + dollars I don't want anything coming off.
If something falls of my cheap ass pos Norc.........mehh, fix it.
Something comes off a dogs bollocks ubergun............Im pissed.

I will support the various Asian economies till the day I die. I wont complain about the latest piece of crap I just bought, because I bought it without a gun at my head.
Like many others in this country I cant afford to pay homegrown inflated unionised prices.
Every dollar I have gets stretched beyond belief, and my little Asian buddies enable me to play with toys otherwise out of my reach.
I guarantee you that I have just as much fun with my Norc, as you do with your fancy ass brand name gun..........probably more fun :)

Cheers..

I sure liked the M14 community here back when everybody got along and helped each other out regardless of brand of rifle or whatever.
These days.... Not so much ....

I was going to go B.A.S.E. jumping this weekend, but I wanted to do something dangerous, so I shot my Norc instead. It worked disappointingly flawless, so I spat on Harleys at a local biker hangout. Now that was a rush. It turns out I can jump a 6 foot fence at a run. Cool.

You know....its like....well....I love my brothers, but I still like to yank their chains every now and again.

Shoot what ever makes you happy....I would still be happy with a missing thumb and a blind eye.

(That's because I'd be on disability and getting all you working stiffs to pay for my gun addiction.)

I get and like the humour , don't feel my post was at all aimed at you ;)

Why else would bayo lugs be so important? This is what they're talking about when you hear rabbling about the shorty having better ballistics! Its got nothing to do with the round being fired and everything to do with the projectile.

That's a feature. Launching the barrel is for high-risk CQB environments. Think of it like a hybrid between a claymore mine and a shish kebab
