My word...it wasnt even a Norinco

Just to piss everyone off hehehe I'm gonna build up a springfield M1A receiver with a norc barrel, lrb bolt, sei trigger and whatever else I have laying around. RWB oprod, BM59 rear sights, usgi gas system and flash hider.... I'll make my own stock.
It will be a franken M1A ... Now I just need some of that chinese gord medar match ammo referred to earlier hehehe
So who's horrified ;) and which part should we guess will fail first??

What ? Ya beat me to it... I was just about to buy an LRB from Chris at www.armtac.com and install my shorty Norc barrel just to see if my #### would fall off!

Hey, soon I'm gonna be in Pemberton, BC Gun Club with bongobob, my pointman; we will all teach you why "Desert Eager, Numbah one."

Ain't this a fun community? :nest:

Cheers,

Hot off the press...

Very serious failures, a handgaurd clip catastrophically failing repeatedly and op rod popping out of the race. ;) Just as I do for the Norc crowd; you guys crack me up.

Show me several bolts failures, several barrel failures, scores of improperly indexed barrels, cut hands and and a cut scalp, repeated extreme headspace (unsafe to fire by spec), cracked gas cylinders off M1As all from one site of limited membership within say a year or two's time and we're getting places on the Norc-Springfield equality business. ;)

This thread unfortunately reads like a comedy to those supporting Springfield, compare these "failures" to just a couple pages of this forum and smile.

I just might have to slide on down to pemberton just to keep my eye on you and Greg LOL
He finally got his prize trw parts installed to a vintage receiver at my "last" clinic in surrey a few weeks ago. I can't wait to see her ;)

I warrantied an SAI rifle that a defect in the chamber area. Spent brass had a bulged area. They replaced the barrel free of charge. Even picked up the shipping. I was the second owner. Difficult to imagine how the original owner did not notice or perhaps didn't care as it shot well. Anyway...when I have warrantied SAI rifles they did not ask any questions concerning ownership.

I imagine their wanting you to be content so you'll buy another SAI rifle or handgun. Intelligent strategy as it eliminates a lot of risk associated with ownership.

The other main cause of catastrophic failures is due to barrel problems related to bad steel or improper stress relieving (heat treating). The latter is faily common. Several years ago, 9 out of a batch of 35 barrels used to build match M1A rifles in California blew up. Most were quite accurate for about 1200 rounds, then blewy... One of the guns from this event is documented in my records with an inspection statement from the NGMTU that clearly indicates the stress relieving problem.

K, your Google fu is going to have to step up a notch. That's 2 over years, and one account of excellent warranty service, the last example sounds like private building not SAI as they sure aren't based in California, so curious tack on and pretty unfair to call that a Springfield issue. And I just dug a soft Norc bolt out of my own basement. I can beat that just in the last few months here in this very small forum alone, good hunting look forward to seeing what else turns up. ;)

The op-rod can come out of any M14 if the tab is worn or was not fitted properly. As for the extractors being spit out this is a known issue with this platform. Invest in a USGI M14 chamber brush and use it.

Just saying there gave been issue.

There are thousands of 'mericans shooting polyps with no issue .

I agree the last bunch of norcs must have bypassed the QA department. Hopefully the importers will take note and provide feedback to norinco

Doesn't matter how many problems you find with non chinese rifles on US forums. There are those here who care way to much about what they think and will rabidly defend that position, and grossly exagerate their own "evidence". Folks who care way too much about what you do or spend money on or post about.... To ever admit, their foaming at the mouth means little here.

Flame on kind sirs ;)

...When your Norinco does the space shuttle Columbia and you end up blind you can go after communist China for satisfaction....

I'd rather just not end up blind regardless rather than worry about who I would pursue in court. With a firearm like a norc m14 that has a bad reputation for excessive headspace and the like it pays to check the headspace and give the rifle a good once over for tightness or damage before use.

Impressive that they got you the pin that quickly. One thing I have learned is that any gun I want to shoot regularly I need to have spare parts for. One reason I love AR's is that stuff is widely available and I don't have to wait on a manufacturer to send me parts so I can get up and running again.

Not sure what the point of this thread is though - digging up threads from over the years serves no purpose; it offers no perspective or context on the failures. Reality is guns are machines. Machines fail. Some are better quality than others. Don't be uptight about some other guy's rifle of choice.

IBTL.

That's a pretty insulting statement Thomas, the exaggeration bit and calling anyone who questions Norinco self important. PM Dogleg if you want an account of the first M305 kaboom I mention (he hasn't posted it here, as many don't), and the second is a coworker who doesn't handload and isn't a CGN'er. Zero exaggeration, just kabooms with no good reason for them, that does indeed make me lean back. Then there is the impressive collection of recent major issues by different members here. Pre-2008ish Norcs were OK, I built on them, just out of spec, the current stuff is so hit and miss it's spooky.

Overall just disappointed with the tone and the fact it was taken "there" from discussion with comic chips from each side. Calling people liars when the stuff is in this very forum does indeed make blood boil, or one foam at the mouth if you prefer to put it that way. So yep, foaming now.

Whatever, I am an A hole in case folks are just figuring that out now. Build or tune and actually shoot several hundred chinese rifles and then come and talk to me about your "experience". Because surely, if these rifles were as dangerous as you keep preaching... I'd be dead or at least have a singed eyebrow by now.
I am familiar with Dogleg's rifle or at least I think so.
I don't want to be too much of a #### but for the past few years you barely post then you build an LRB and come on here with pulpit in tow preaching the dangers of chinese rifles... In every thread you can.
It's getting old, boring, and well... Simply no fun. ;)
But that's just me and I'll be leaving you all very soon so don't sweat it too much ;) we're all grown ups here

And guys who buy SAI and LRB are not rich. #### I have scopes that cost as much as an SAI. No I'm afraid the firearm hobby isn't inexpensive to do right. You can surround yourself with scabby milsurps and SKS rifles if you like but owning something nice costs money. If you don't have $2000 for a rifle I hope you are looking after your children properly or don't have any.

Hey, lay off the scabby milsurps! Even the highest quality firearm will not weather a wars worth of beatings & come out un-scabby and many were very well made indeed. My 06 m-305 blew its barrel off on the first rnd. My 2012 is holding its own so far.

Ben I'm having some fun..

Just like the Dodge guys say Ford sucks because of recalls but ignore to mention all the Dodge recalls

My sense of humor is turned off I guess ;). Its all good - I'll lighten up. Not sure why people get so wound up about brand vs brand (although come to think of it, I'm a bit of an AR snob).

Well said and politely too.
Good luck with your future Thomas.

I HOPE to be able to scrimp and save and build up an LRB in time, but cannot walk out and spend $3500. In the meantime, my M305 that has had a good number of rounds down the barrel from the previous owner, and is holding its head-space steady at .1638 is doing me fine with several more by me! I will continue to check head-space, and may upgrade a few more parts from what already has been. But frankly all this back and forth Bullsh*t is ridiculous! Funny, but ridiculous! Nothing but two or three different groups yelling at each other of their respective soapboxes! Too bad the forum couldn't operate the way it was meant to be with guys helping each other out with questions, concerns, and knowledge. But some will always troll away! As far as 45ACPKING, hope your here for a lot longer. The information you pass on here is excellent and we all learn a lot from it, stick around and continue to keep us schooled and informed!!

Cheers

Thanx for the comment W99. I'm not leaving due to anyone or any online issues or anything like that. I'm going to be in places internet just doesn't go (without huge expense) , hunting, fishing and stuff from august to february and the we'll see. My wife wants to go back to bosnia next spring. I might poke my head up now and then ;)
And I agree, this forum was always about building community and helpin each other along our journeys towards fun and #### loss prevention. I will formerly apologize if my antics have detracted from that spirit. But a handful of norinco haters, maybe need to go hang out on the US forums so they don't worry so much about what the rest of us are doing.

You may also notice he (not you, Thomas) is whining over being treated the way he treats others lol. Your statement is dead on and frankly, true. Its not a huge deal, its regular riff raff seen anywhere men, toys and sub-groups of toy genres occur. Low-budget guys jab high-budget guys and vice versa. This thread should deliver in spades over the next couple days until it degrades past the point of no return and becomes locked. I look forward to that :)
