Mysterious SKS Markings - 1951 Tula and others

The problem with that quest is that you will never really find enough evidence to say "beyond a doubt"... when it comes to SKS's, you gather as many facts as possible and come up with reasonable conclusions. Perhaps over time, as more people get interested in SKS's beyond the "bullet hose" lens, more facts will be gathered, and we will understand them more.
 
I was the owner of the 53 . The 53 serial number was cleaner. Had a 53 tula date and star on it and appeared to have been buffed. ( a little bit). Have heard of a couple in the states and a few up here. The guy I sold it to had a bunch of ideas on the stamping on it. Due to that it is his rifle now I have destroyed the pictures that I had and would believe that it would be rude for someone else to post them.

Too true. Most history is an interpretation of clues. Just like the new clue.

Was hoping you'd chime in. Maybe the new owner will volunteer the pictures, if not of the serial number, then of the second date stamp.
