Mystery Piece in Cosmoline

It looks similar to, but not identical, to accessory shown in one of my books for a Swede M96 - slides on the muzzle, then the "hook" part hooks around the front sight and the device acts as a cleaning rod guide to clean barrel from muzzle end without rubbing against the rifling at the muzzle. Might be same tool, but for a different kind of mauser?

Very close to a yugo cleaning rod guide..

I just unwrapped a new in cosmo M1903 Springfield barrel made on contract by High Standard in 1944. Thick, waxy black preservative and green wax paper wrap, but as good as the day it was made. High Standard barrels are excellent quality. HS also made M1911 barrels for Remington-Rand.

Yugo cleaning rod guide for sure.
I have an identical one. I'm sure there could have some slight variations, like the one posted by Pblatzz, with the rounded tip....
