I have been very fortunate to have acquired a Lee Enfield N9 mk 1 recently. A friend discovered the rifle which had been sporterized with 1960's Sile stock and had a target sight affixed that did cover up most of the receiver stamp. As he knew my great interest in all Enfields, he offered it up to me which I quickly agreed to. With the help of a few Enfield enthusiasts, I was able to acquire an original NOS Birch or beech 4 piece furniture set along with all the bits and bobs to get this N9 back to its issued condition. With the serial number beginning with an A and four digits, its confirmed one of the 3000 produced .22 trainers for the Royal Navy from 1957-60. The serial number is located on the barrel, under the bottom of the receiver, on the side of the action and on the bolt. PARKERIFLED AGP is also stamped on end of barrel.
I did have a couple questions for members of the forum about this particular rifle. The furniture in NOS and is definitely from the mid to late 1950's.
The front blade sight is very easy to drift left or right with just finger pressure. How can this front blade sight be secured? It appears that there was a small punch used to initially secure the blade into place.
Finally, how difficult is it to find an issued rear sight with the 25yd stamping on the side of the sight? If there are any members that may have one I would definitely be interested. Here are a few pictures of the rifle as it was received and when the re assembly was complete. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
