Loaded up 40 rounds, 20 with 11 gr. and 20 with 12 gr. Unique and 155 gr. Lee WW with a bit of lino, gas checked.

Five shot string (once I covered my Caldwell chrono with a piece of plywood) with 11 gr. - 1481, 1483, 1468, 1478, 1479 for an average of 1477.8 fps.

Five shot string with 12 gr. Unique, same bullet, etc. - 1553, 1567, 1564, 1561, 1546 for an average of 1558 fps.

Not a real, pure scientific test, as I was using two brands of LR primers and some mixed brass, but the old girl did group fairly decently at 100 yds.

I am not on the Olympic team, nor ever have been, nor ever will be. I have never been what I call a "good shot", nor do I worry about it. My heart pounds with some force, and that seems to be a good excuse for mediocre groups. :)

I had trouble closing the bolt on the 11 gr. loads, and not as bad on the 12 gr. ones. I set the FL die a wee bit tighter and seated a bullet on an inert round after FL sizing. Seems to have cured the problem.

Next test I will load some with the 155's and some with Lee 160 WW+ lino, GC, all sized .309.

I was just reading some recipes for loading .284 Win with the same charge of Unique but I don't have any .284 mold so was thinking of just trying some jacketed 115 gr HP or some 145 gr psp that I have had sitting around doing nothing for 20 yrs or so.

A lot of old loading manuals used to publish sub-sonic load data using fast powder of on sort or another in larger capacity cases than it was designed for but I heard or read somewhere that they have quit this because of erratic results that their lawyers are afraid of coming back to bite them.

A bit of a side note: I've only fired maybe 40 LEE 155 gr. cast bullets out of the NAACO, all WW with a wee bit of lino added and sized .309, then simply tumble lubed with plain old LEE alox. The NAACO barrel is rather odd, with several rather shallow riflings, if I may use that term. No hint of leading as of yet. I loaded some 160 LEE, same formula, but tumble lubed and some blue lube worked into the grooves with my fingers. I suppose I added the blue lube for use in hotter loads, but these will go out with 11 gr. Unique.

All bullets are GC. Maybe not necessary, but done anyway. Not sure if anyone is interested in this vital information, but here it is! :)
