I'm interested in getting a Nagant 1895 Revolver, but i'm kind of worried about the ammo availibility and price.
Are there any changes in the cylinder to accomodate more available ammo safely? or are there more common reloads that work as well?

I really like its historical value and would like to get one

I use in mine Nagant modern ammo if I remember well is SW32Long,easy to find at dealers

32 sw long can be safely fired in the nagant revolver. its close enough to the origional cartridge.

in the us, they make cylinders in 32sw long, but putting that cylinder on a canadian nagant would make it prohibited.

so i can basically fire 32sw long ammo without any safety concerns?
i cant find .32 S&W Long on any of the supporting dealers' websites.

See gallen270's comment. I'm pretty sure that cylinder would turn the Nagant into a prohib. as anything called ".32" is a babykilling pocket-pistol calibre that's only intended to kill people and has no sporting purpose.

This is interesting, and I thought only a .32 barrel would make it prohib. ... so the original barrel should be bad too because it can fire a .32.

I doubt that any self-respecting pimp or gangsta would lower his self-esteem to be seen having one of these ... perhaps silver-plated with gold and diamond inlays ...

Oh how ####ed up things are ...

"...cant find .32 S&W Long..." That's because there's little demand. .32 calibre handguns are prohibited. However, Epp's lists it. Likely Fiocchi.
"...so the original barrel should be bad too..." Nope. It's not a .32. It's a .31 calibre. Uses a .312" 96-98(or so) grain bullet. Don't try to figure out why it's called a 7.62(bore diameter) either. It'll give you brain damage.

I believe it should be 0.3"...but imperial system could give me a brain damage for sure :D I'm a victim of metric brainwashing and all I know 7.62 means 7.62 millimetres...for the purpose of go bang one could use 32 long but don't forget the native Nagant cartridge is designed to seal the gap between cylinder and barrel. Therefore all substitutes will affect power, accuracy, and first of all safety...Just my 2 cents :D

Why not just order the correct brass from buff. Arms, bullets avail. from M.T. Chambers and others.

x2

Trade Ex has brass and bullets, Milarm Edmonton has Fiocchi Nagant ammo, I'm selling PPU Nagant ammo, and more sellers around for sure...price is a factor but not that much for the unique cartridge and historic revolver

I just recently bought a couple of boxes of 7.62 Nagant from Teapot2. Very good to deal with. I suggest getting the cartridge the gun was made for even if it does cost more. After all, I doubt you'll shoot it that much. There are a lot better revolvers for target and competition than the Nagant. It's fun to shoot, but hardly competitive in this day and age.
