Ok, im having a major problem with my nagant bolt. It has worked flawlessly for as long as i have had the rifle (a year). When i put the bolt in the gun and cycle the action it works perfectly but once i pull the trigger it is virtually impossible to recock the bolt. You have to put the gun on the floor and hold it with your foot whilst pulling with all your might on the bolt handle.

I finally got the bolt recocked and took it apart, cleaned everything and reassembled, same deal. I took it apart again and inspected for any broken parts and such, everything seems fine but once i pulled the trigger and decocked it same thing happened.

I have no clue why its doing this??? Any theories people?

Thanks.

By recock the bolt do you mean opening the bolt as in to extract a cartridge or pulling the cocking piece back and manually re-cocking it with the bolt closed but in a fired position?

I had this problem with my Mosin Nagant as well.

Same issue, fire it, and when I went to operate the bolt it wouldn't budge save for a lot of torquing. I pulled the bolt apart, and found it was caused by a little tiny burr that had snapped and came off and got wedged in a place it shouldn't have. Pulled it out, and it worked as normal since.

I know this isn't much help, since you said you already pulled the bolt apart and cleaned everything, but maybe it'll give a hint.

You could put a bit of grease on the camming surface that cocks the firing pin on opening, might make it a bit easier.

Can't hurt, but make sure you use something that doesn't gum up in cold weather. ;)

Ok, i think ive fixed it. I got out the dremel and lightly ground the curved surface on the cocking piece that mates with the curved surface on the bolt body. Then i polished bothe surfaces and put a light film of grease on. I put the bolt in the gun, dry fired it and it open and cocked fine. I did this about 5 more times and then it did what it was doing before and failed to open. So i took the bolt apart again and ground the curved surface on the bolt body that mates with the cocking piece, polished it, greased it and now the bolt is operating smoother than it was before i had this problem.

Thanks for your help guys.

BUBBA!!!!!!!!!!:p

Seriously though, hope you get this sorted. We should all know by now that sometimes, you just gotta reef on a mosin to make it work. They don't like delicate touches

when you have bolt reassembled please check screw at back of bolt and make sure it flush this adjusts pin strike on cartridge if it is in to far you will puncture the cartridge and boom just ask a buddy of mine who almost lost his head .bolt split in half . a quick look every now and then can save you a headache or worst .A WORD TO THE WISE IS SUFFICIENT.
