any info wich would assist me getting working info for a local gunsmith to drill /tap /mount the scope onto a nagant for me.
Print out the information on this site www.mosinnagant.net/sniper%20section/mosin-nagant-sighting.asp and have your gunsmith read it, paying attention to the section: Notes On Scope Setup. If you need pictures of rifles with the base removed to get an idea where the 4 holes need to be drilled PM me an e-mail address. There are no "set" measurements for the locations of the holes, they were determined on a rifle by rifle basis but if you place the mount too high it goes over the bore too far and if mounted too low it freezes the ejector.
Do you have ALL the mounting hardware for the base (2-locating pins, 2-base screws 6mx0.75, 2-lock screws). Is your mount a new reproduction or an original? A reproduction will most likley need grinding while an original may need grinding or shimming.
Your smith will need a 6mx0.75 tap for the base screws (if they are the correct ones) and may have to order one in.
Make sure the holes for the locating pins are drilled for a slight interference fit and are driven flush with the base.
When you get your rough elevation set stake only the bottom adjusting screw.
When cutting the stock for the base be careful as the wood will split easily.
Have you taken it to your gunsmith yet to see if he can do it, or did he tell you to get him more info?
It's a PITA to set one up properly and he may not want to do it.
