Name me some good quality Red Dots you know of.

Got any pics? Sounds like something I haven't seen before.
The Strikefire and Sparc are cool, but I noticed at Brownells, they have a new Doctor Optic like thing. Its not very cheap either. I haven't seen them here yet. I wish I could remember what it was called.

Here are some that I have used/own

Elcan SpecterDR - Beastly optic with SOCOM pedigree, very nice glass, awesome BDC reticle, short eye relief, 1x is more like 1.2x, best for DMR setup IMO.

Leupold MK4 CQT - Heavy and feels sturdy, good glass, dot is a bit large for precise work, 1x is more like 1.1x, ok eye relief, not ideal for bench work but great for a medium range carbine.

Meprolight M21 - Sturdy yet a bit clunky, true 1x reflex sight with no need of batteries but may wash out under strong sun light, easy to use no fuss sight, ideal for pistol carbines/SMGs and shotguns or for short range SHTF carbines.

Kobra EKP-8-02 - Cool and very under valued red dot sight, has 4 useful reticles to choose from, battery life is a bit short, meant to be used on Combloc platforms.

EOTech 552 - Your gold standard in holographic sights, best reticle there is IMO, great optic for CQB and the 1 MOA dot can be quite precise, best used in conjunction with a magnifier to make it really shine.

Aimpoint T1 - Perhaps the best red dot sight ever made, small/light and can be mounted really low, 5 years battery life, very durable and is IMO the best optic for any purpose.

Not all of these are really "red dots" but...
Out of my Aimpoint PRO, EOTech XPS2, and Leupold Prismatic Tactical, I like the Leupold the best by far.

Aimpoint:
- Hate the tight rubber web for holding the caps, almost impossible not to start a cross-thread unless you pull so hard you think it will break, give me metal cabling please.
- The mount pieces are poorly machined with bad tolerances, the metal landings don't fit snug at all so the scope is always slightly canted, wtf is this an airsoft??
- Would have liked a circle or crosshair around the miniscule dot swimming in the middle of a giant sea of empty glass.
- Off axis view angle is actually less than I thought it would be.
- Stupid CR1/3N battery choice almost impossible to find in Canada, retailers who have it want outrageous price, had to bulk order from USA.
- Includes owner's manuals for numerous Aimpoints except the PRO, absolutely no documentation related to the PRO in the box.
+ Good battery life.

EOTech:
- Hate the swimming laser pixels in the reticle, give me solid lines please.
- Reticle brightness always resets to default on power-up.
- Actually quite large.
- Off axis view angle is actually less than I thought it would be.
+ Like the holo system of reticle projection.

Leupold:
- Fairly short battery life (typ. 350-400 hrs until dead on lowest) but I almost never use the lit reticle feature anyway (the LED can also be removed from the scope).
- 3" to 5" eye relief.
- More of a short 1x scope than a "red dot".
- Generic owner's manual.
+ Etched reticle always usable.
+ Excellent glass.
~ Would be sweet in a 1x-3x model.

Tried them all on my favourite .223 rifle, the Leupold is permanently mounted, the EOTech got demoted to my Mossberg shotgun, the Aimpoint got sent to his room and only comes out on his birthday.

The RMR is nice, but it's really only suitable as a secondary optic on a rifle.

Really? Maybe you should let this guy know that, Pat "Mac" McNamara. He runs one on his AR and is a SME in the US.

Trijicon RMR. Can be had with fibre optic/tritium or a battery powered LED version. I lucked into an LED for a price I just couldn't pass up. Still trying to source a mount for it.

ADM makes two mounts for it, a low and a high, other than Trijicon. I'm using the "high" mount. I believe it will co-witness AR BUIS.

Thanks, I've been waiting for Arms East to get back to me on availability. Brownell's only lists the low mount. Apparently at one time they offered a lower third option but I'll settle for co-witness since I'm using a folding BUIS.

Try ordering directly from ADM?

I didn't say you couldn't use it as a primary optic, just that I don't think it's ideal. Not when you can run an Aimpoint Micro for basically the same weight and slightly less coin. I don't know how many people have RMRs on CGN, but I bet the number that use it as a primary optic is very small.

I was running rmrs as primaries on san's and benelli m2's. They are still on the benellis but off the san's. Only advantage over the 1-4 or 1-10's from March was weight, that's it.

They suck on pistols as it takes too long to acquire the dot.
