Does anyone remember the name of the old conversion that replaced the slide on a 1911 converting it to a break action pistol in rifle calibers?? I think one version was made buy Springfield Armory.

Thanks in advance.

Gas Can.

The Springfield Armory version was called the S.A.S.S. (SA Single Shot), but Magnum Research sold the same design under another name I can't remember right now, and it was even sold as the Pachmayr Dominator for a while.

Pachmayr (spelling?) the grip and 1911 parts people made one I called the DOMINATOR (do a search, there are some pictures). Springfield Armory had one also. Some of the calibers were .44 mag, .223 and .308. I don't know why they aren't still making them. You would think they would be a great gun for the long distant silhouette shooters but who knows there may be guns that feel better to shoot with those calibers. And they were more a bolt action than a break open . You lifted a lever which unlocked the bolt from the barrel then the bolt fastened to a slide, slid back extracting the case.
