Hey guys, rescued a sporterized Lee Enfield and an old Cooey 64B from my Fiancee's Grandma Yesterday, however I cant determine what kind of Lee-Enfield I have. I also read that some of the Ishapore Enfields were chambered in 7.62x51mm (.308) instead of .303 British. Anychance you guys could take a look and let me know what I have here?

Thanks.

Name that Enfield...

Sue?

Seriously, though, what you have is an Indian-made LE. The factory at Ishapore made them for generations; India used the SMLE Mk III throughout, vice the more modern Mk IV. 'GRI' stands for 'George Rex Imperiator', for George VI, King and Emperor of India.

Good rifles, generally.

roger thanks for the info! Mil-Surps and older firearns are kind of outside of my wheelhouse. Is there any way to tell whether its a .308 or .303 version without measuring the chamber?

Well, based on manufacture date of 1941, it's almost certainly a .303.

Good round, despite being over a century old. It'll take anything in North America every bit as well as the glittery new stuff.
