9,3x57 is longer and the rim the same dia. as the case head, more case taper too.

I would say that it is some 223 casing derivative.

Looks too long to be a .30 Apache. Looks about 1.5" case length

Your right on that one Splatter.30-223 would be longer with a higher shoulder.I am not quite sure now what it is, but 30-223 its not.
Really throws you off when there is nothing to compare to.Now that I have a comparison I am still stumped.Atleast I know what its not.

Could be a 30-222 not sure at all. 5.45X39 Russian brass necked up to .30 would look close to that mystery cartridge.

.30-222 was a .222 cut down and necked for .30 (case length 1.373")

Edited:Hmmm.... May be a .30-221 Fireball (aka 7.62 x 34 HK)..... Found an old image that looks like it.. But no scale to compare to....

Well, it's definitely got a 223 sized case head, and it's smaller than 338 (cause a 338-223 is a straight wall), and the shoulder doesn't seem to be steep enough to be a TCU cartridge

It needs to be stood next to a .223 to dismiss the idea that it's a .221/Whisper based cartridge.

Is it just me, or do the shoulders seem a bit uneven?

Why is there a shoulder on only one side of the case? I suspect a homemade trick question cartridge. John, you wouldn't mess with us would ya? lol
Is this really an official cartridge or a 303carbine utopian dream?

It sure was decieving with that first angled shot, much shorter than I thought.

It's actually a necked up .222 Remington case and a .308 diameter Hornady 180 grain Boattail stuffed into it.
