Does anyone do this and if you do what are their names?

Way back when I shot competitions with Army Cadets we named our rifles when we made it on the team. It was kinda neat, we got small decals made up for each one, and it gave us a way to keep the rifles from being confused in the vault.

Mine was "Bull" cause it had the heaviest barrel.
Anyone else?

The only time I name my rifle is when things are not going well, and those names cannot be repeated in front of civilized folks :). I guess calling my target rifle my baby all the time would constitute a name, as well as calling my Ruger #1H Stainless the beast; carry that thing around 6 hours a day for a week and you will call it a beast also.

A lady I shoot with has named all of her guns. It is amusing because when we tell her she may want to sell one she keeps saying that she cannot sell so and so since it is now part of the family.

I named my Fraser River Hawken "Sadie", but don't make a habit of naming my forearms as a habit.

The guys in the club hang names on some of the rifles though, like
"one ton gun" for the 20lb. Ruger single shot that was made for Fclass.
My brother has one he calls "Spare Parts" because that is what I put it together from!

"Old Ugly" is the name we call my M12 Winchester, because it has a Cutts compensator on it.

Hornhead hangs a name on EVERYTHING!!:D

Name That Gun

A friend of mine has muzzleloader that he calls the "Ugly Gun". That's exactly what it should be called, because it's the ugliest gun I ever saw. The barrel is in two pieces and one half is round, and the other is octagon.

- My 4" S&W model 29 with factory ivory, Mrs. Smith
- A buddy named my 500 S&W, The 'Hummer'. His reasoning, the hummer or Hum Vee is the top of the SUV 'food chain' and the 500 S&W is the top of the handguns.
- The same guy named, and actually had it engraved on the gun, calls his 10ga. 3 1/5" SxS, The Duck F**ker.:)

When I was in the military I named my C7 "Mars" after the Roman god of War. I dremel engraved this into the front of the mag well on the receiver so it was always facing the "enemy". I don't want to explain the sh*t I got in over that. Whoever in 2VP has **8047 say hi to him for me.

"The Duck F**ker"... That's hilarious.

My 22 Mossberg is called the "Dirty Girl" because it never needs to be cleaned.

My Lee Enfield .303 is called "Sally". I put a synthetic stock on it and it kicks like a B**ch now. So... its a red headed she-devil that has no problems kicking you in the junk.

I call my over/under "The Boomstick" (seems like that is a popular name, I wonder why? haha). Its also been referred to as "The P.O.S" but only when shooting trap hahaha.

My 6.5 x 55 is known simply as "The Swede"

My Savage 99 is known as "Gretz" cheesie but a hockey reference is never a bad thing. Its also been refered to by everyone else as the "Ugly Biatch" as the previous owner took such a nice gun and sanded the stock by hand (the groves are crazy), stained it with some thompson water seal and pressed a tooney into the stock (chick magenet indeed). But all that will change when the new stock is done.

My Cooey single shot 410 is known as the "Lil Man" and many a grouse know that gun far too well.

I think everyone has given their rifles/shotguns names here or there. Now they don't always stick, but they are a reflection of ones feelings towards that specific firearm at that exact time. I have seen guys pissed off at their firearms and other times guys hold them high with pride after a good days hunt. Who knew the steel and wood would end up being such a major part of so many peoples lives.
