I'm doing some research on my first long range rifle.
I think I've narrowed it down to 4 serious contenders and 2 wishful thinking choices.
Serious:
Winchester 70 coyote lite
winchester stealth II
Savage 10 fp choate
Remington 700P

Wishful:)
FN SPR
Tika T3 Tactical

Any feedback would be interesting. Right now I favour the savage

narrowing choices

Just a little advise from past experiances the best guns I have ever owned over the years, I had made up by Hart Rifle Barrels, find yourself a good used action and have them barrel it for you what ever you want. Your action will be trued etc I just got a Rem 700 action done in 7mmwsm 24" stainless and it is a amazing cartridge and gun. weighs 6.7lbs with mcmillan hunter stock.
If you buy a stock and bed it and fit yourself you can do it not costing that much.
I see now that there are quite a few canadian companies doing this work with some very good results, chech out what they will charge.
go to this site www.6mmbr.com and look at articale on Ric Horst's 7wsm
If you have any doubts about wsm this will comfirm the potentials on this fine short stubby case for a long range hunting gun.

For a good gun out of the box I've had great luck with remington 700's. I have one in .308 and one in.223. With my own loads in the .308 using Sierra HPBT match bullets and a Leupold I have won matches out to 900yards. Good luck.

I am a savage fan so would lean towards the FV. Don't like the Choate stock as it will not ride bags well. Might not be too bad from a bipod but that is not an ideal way to shoot for max accuracy.

The Savage and Rem have the largest aftermarket so lots of parts to swap to at a later time. Win is having its issues but I am sure will survive in some form.

For what the Euro rifles cost, you can build yourself a superb rig.

Visit the many posts here and on mentioned forums. You need to decide what type of shooting and distances you want. There are many superb choices but just saying LR shooting is like saying 'I want to drive a car'.

Doesn't tell us much...

Nothing wrong with Savage but not a fan of the Choate stock, between the remington and the stealth, have owned both. Still have the stealth and am impressed with it. Why not get the savage with mcmillan stock and be done with it? Can't remember the model number but some one will know. As for aftermarket they are all well supported now, most of the aftermarket gadget money would be better spent on ammo and gas to get to shoot, IMHO. ;)
