Nasty old reloads

Never trust anyones reloads unless you are certain of their abilities and trust their work, just my 2 cents.
Ive had stuff given to me through my dad in 243 with all +/-3gr on the powder, pulled them all after a few shots were very inconsistent.
Another example would be the aquisition of some mixxed factory with handloads in which the handloads were all lube soaked inside. Be aware of what you are getting.

Thank you to all that have responded.
The seller got back to me and as I suspected, it was an honest mistake. The ammo he was selling was from someone who passed away, and he had no idea that the factory boxes included reloads. To be honest I don’t think he would be able to tell the difference between a factory round and a reload anyway. He agreed to reimburse me for part of the purchase price, as the rest of the ammo was fine.
Lesson learned, faith in humanity restored!
 
I'm curious about the timing. Original post was 02/09, and then on 02/10 you say the seller got back to you and made an honest mistake.

How many days between you calling/emailing/PMing the seller before he got back to you? Thinking you jumped the gun when you said you were burned, unless the seller ignored you for a week. Many times I PM someone and don't hear back for a few days.

My $0.02 worth....

I sat on this for a while before posting. I was more concerned about what to do with the reloads, and I posted the back story just for interest, not to get a response.

He was burned. Apparently it was unintentional mistake by someone who jumped into something they knew nothing about.

OP said the seller made it right when he realised his mistake so all is good.

I learnt the hard way, 20 years ago when I was first getting into firearms, I bough the cheapest reloads (from a private seller ) money could buy, not going into detail atm but squib loads sure F*** you day and handgun up!

I think that is a positive situation for him now, glad it all worked out.
 
OK, now I’m pissed!
The seller refunded me $50 today for 48 missing rounds, and a few $ extra I guess. That still leaves me $150 short for what he advertised as CCI 38’s that turned out to be old reloads. The 357 ammo he sold me is fine.

Against everyone’s advice, I fired 5 rounds at the range, just too curious. You were right. 2 ftf’s, rest inconsistent with one barely clearing the barrel. I disposed of what I had with me, and will pull the rest apart and dispose.

So what now? I am not whining about loosing the $$, but not sure how to proceed. What is the site's etiquette? I never had to leave negative feedback etc. before. Am I over reacting here?

If it was me, I would write a polite note explaining that the ammo is not the factory ammo advertised, but rather garbage handloads of no value, so a refund is required. I would also warn him that if he did not do the right thing, a blistering negative feedback would be posted.

If he is unfamilar with ammo, he may not realize that what he sent was garbage, not usable ammo.
