Some hunters were stopped from getting to their limited hunting area near Dease Lake, and had their story on CGN.
At the time I said it was the BCWF that was working on our behalf on this matter. Here is the official invitation for those hunters, and any others who have been denied legal access, to contact the BCWF.

The BC Wildlife Federation feels the matter of blockades currently set up by the Tahltan Nation in the Skeena Region have significantly impacted resident hunter opportunities. We are aware of one on the Telegraph Creek Rd. and one on Highway 37 at the Junction of the Klappan River Rd. On October 2 an eviction notice was handed to resident hunters on the Jade Boulder Rd on threat of being “locked in.” These actions by the Tahltan have significantly impacted the access for resident hunters who have been forced to forego their Limited Entry Hunt authorization and other opportunities in the areas affected.

The BCWF wants to gather reports of these impacts on resident hunters. What we need is stories or reports back from anyone that has been negatively impacted by these blockades or any other intimidating tactics they have had to endure at the hands of the Tahltan.

Specifically we would like information of ..

1 Details and information of costs and other aggravations incurred for having to abort the hunting plan and return home or move to another location.

2 Whether or not an Limited Entry Hunt opportunity was lost.

3 Information on any acts of vandalism, harassment or any form of intimidation experienced by being a resident hunter in the area.

4 Information of any written orders, notices or postings by the Tahltan that serve to disallow resident hunters access or opportunity.

5 Any photographs or notes taken on blockades, conversations or other actions by the Tahltan that intended to deny resident hunter access or presence.

6 Any information regarding reasons or justifications by Tahltan representatives for their actions.

If you feel you wish to make written complaint to Ministry officials the addresses below are provided.

It seems to be that way.The government in B.C. calls itself Right Wing , But what people fail to see is the a--hole ward Liberal. That to me says it all. Everytime some one opens his mouth the R or Anti- Spirit ward crops up.

You guys think this has to stop?

Our premier, Gordon Campbell, came to power ranting and raving about the NDP giving away the country to the Natives. He would say how non natives made up 95% of the people of the province and he would rule for every one. He did claim to be right wing, until he got elected.
After he got in power he completely turned around. Not only on this, but on virtually everything he said or did.
Ever since the olympics were slated for Vancouver, he wouldn't cross any native, for fear of them blockading the olympics. That is largely the reason the government would do nothing while the natives unlawfully blockaded the hunters in the north.
The BC Wildlife Federation is the only group with any power, fighting for the sportsman and outdoor people in BC.
Any of you who want to continue to have access to government land, or salmon to fish, or, just the great outdoors to enjoy, should suport the BC Wildlife Federation. If you think this isn't a serious situation, take a look at what used to be the Queen Charlotte Islands is now named.

Imagine that, a politian who's word is NOT good

Blockades cause fear in individuals using intimidation, worries of being delayed, detained or even shot. They are in place to disrupt the daily ongoings of those trying to simply get on with their day. Sounds like domestic terrorism to me. There are ways to deal with that.

We have experienced the same thing in certain areas here in Manitoba.
Road-blocks, intimidation.
The people who set up the road blocks feel that they should have sole rights to the use of that land.
I am not native, but I was born in this country. My parents were born in this country.
Should I be forced to live and stay within a city because I am non-native.
Everyone in this country should have equal access to public lands, native or not.
There are no easy answers here.

just set-up a blockade at the grocery store and tell them for non-natives only, your "traditional" store is out there... then blockade the hospitals, and say go see your medicine man not our doctors, now i know this isn't "politically" correct ...but you can't say on thing and do another. i have many native friends and co-workers and its usually the bored and broke looking for attention that do these sort of things. but i do agree with the natives blocking access to areas when a company like DeBeers tries to move in, screw 'em for what ever you can get. my 2 cents

They did the same thing in the Chilcotin a few years back when guys were getting the "spike fork" tag for moose. I heard stories of roadblocks where hunters were asked for their licenses and some of them had the page with the moose tag torn out. Never saw it for myself and I shot my moose out in the Chilcotin so take it for what it's worth. I do know for a fact that there were roadblocks.

Didn't this same sort of nonsense happen here in Northern AB with the Buffalo hunts, except trucks were getting vandalized and people threatened ?

Eventually someone is going to start shooting and it's not going to be pretty. There's an increasingly predominant anti-Native sentiment because .1% of the native population can't get their heads out of their asses and realise that these measures don't help their cause.

We need government with some balls to instruct these groups that they lost the 'war' and they're citizens of Canada.

Either that or strip them of their citizenship, put them on a reservation and deny them access to EVERYTHING.
