Too bad I was hoping she would get a medal. As far as Canadian shooters we should be proud of her.

The American Corey Cogdell is only 21 years old and got bronze. I think she has a long and strong future.

Maybe DI SALVATORE will win a gold one day !!

Nattrass finishes 11th in trapshooting in possible Olympic finale
8 hours ago

BEIJING — Broken hearts and broken records highlighted Day 4 of the Beijing Olympics, with Canada still looking for its first medal of the Games.

Trapshooter Susan Nattrass had the best chance of ending the Canadians' podium drought, but the 57-year-old fell short of qualifying for the final. Heading into the last qualification round in a tie for fourth, the Edmonton native missed seven of 25 targets to finish 11th in what is likely her final Olympic appearance.

"I still don't know what I did wrong before my last round. I did the exact same preparation. I probably started trying too hard," she said. "It's hard when it's probably my last Olympics."

Susan is a class act. Probably Canada's most well known shooter. She is so outstanding in her sport that even a few outside the shooting sports know her name. I am not convinced that this is the last we will hear of Susan Natrass.

There are some sports where age and experience do count towards winning. Shotgunners have a category system. Polo players have some sort of games-played rating. And, golfers get a handicap as they improve. If Dr. Nattrass can keep her head in the game, she will stay a potent competitor for many years.

I think just competing in the olympics is enough to warrant pride for a lifetime and 11th amongst the world's best is not too shabby. Of course champions have that desire to win. So, I guess some disappointment is natural. :)

When are we going to get a new range in the Edmonton area to train the little Susan Nattrass' that live in Alberta.

Dr. Nattrass is indeed an excellent athlete. Just talk to her if you ever have the opportunity, and you will know why.

Does anyone know if she is/was an outspoken critic of the various governments' attempts to stop/curtail legal gun ownership. It seems to me that she is/was in a great position to speak on behalf of Cdn. sportsmen/women. I feel that we need people of her distinction, to shame governments into more sensible gun laws.

Does anyone know if there is any video of this on the web and where it may be found. I've given up on ever seeing this event on tv.

Yes, she certainly understands how her shooting career could have turned out differently had the City of Edmonton shut down the Strathcona range when she was starting out. She has expressed concern over firearms legislation, too. What I like best about her responses to questions, when they're asked of her on such topics, is her political savvy. She keeps all of the emotion out of the discussion and is satisfied to make a couple of strong points. It invariably results in good sound bites for the 6 O'Clock news.
