Good eye... I didn't see the cut innards, but it may be correct. Need to see better photos of the inside. If yes, that hoops it for collection. Why did guys do stuff like that!? Drat, I was excited.

Same way 99.9% of all firearms come to Canada... Imported by a dealer/distributor.
How old is this guy?
 
how much was the recently imported, mismatched , reblued ,batch of p-38s selling for ? how many p-38s compared to hi-powers were made ? how many made it to Canada?
 
I am a very knowledgeable collector and my #### doesnt stink...........I say it is worth 75$ lol.

Seriously it'll still fetch 8-900 IMHO, maybe even significantly more.

I don't understand.. maybe not a collectable to you, but it sure has collector value. It's not as valuable as an original, but still collectable.

Oh, one more thing. Holsters were modified in the field during the war or post war for police/military use. Not every modification is a "bubba". This was a tool, and it was used as a tool.
Don't like it? Don't buy it. Interest you? Then get it. As long as it makes you happy.

I love all the self proclaimed experts on CGN...

It looks like it could be a good restoration candidate. It possible you could bring it back to the original finish, assuming there is any left.
 
Whether you spend another $200 having it refinished again so it isn't purple, it's still refinished...twice now. It's worth about 25% of what an original piece with wear and tear would be worth, if that. Collectors pay big money for rare original items, and have little or no interest in dicked with specimens...that's the reality. OP asked what it's worth, people chimed in....$750 would be possible, maybe. It's not a real good candidate for shooting a lot due to the early design, and it's not really going to appreciate in value very much due to the #### finish job done on it.
The Canadian market is rather small BTW, do US values don't really mean much here. There was a fellow on here last year with a Luftwaffe Drilling for sale that had been d&t and a horrible rubber buttpad added. He figured it was worth $12,000+ even though that's what pristine examples sold for in the US. No bites on the EE, went to auction and fetched $5000 or so, with a large part of that going to the auction house. He probably got $3000 out if it in the end.

This is the classic case where it could be a RC K98 in disguise and some of you would pay $5,000 because you don't know the difference between your A-Hole and a Hole in the Ground.

And some of you fell in love with the Vet Bring Back story and Couldn't see the Forest for the Trees. Buy the Gun, Not the Story. Wake Up.
 
Nazi stamped BHP's are collector pieces only if in original condition. Having this one reblued with a proper finish would drop its collector value even farther, but not affect it as a shooter.
$300 to $400 is way light for any BHP. A new BHP Mk III runs a grand plus.
The troopies were not allowed to bring handguns back. Hands guns were restricted in 1935. However, W.W II troopies were a clever bunch and found ways around the kit searches they were subjected to on ship and quayside. A smuggled, illegally imported, pistol has no extra value anyway.

I hear you. Problem is this, every k98 I look at on GB appears to be an RC in disguise, even the 2000$ ones. Thats really not the place to find collectibles I suppose. But further to the point that others have made, there are degrees of collectible. I'm not looking for the top end guns, as I dont have the knowledge base to do so. Im looking for interesting conversation pieces and shooters. Most of which still have a good degree of potential price appreciation. So I would be fine with a refinished HP....for the right price.
