Nazi marked smle sporter on EE

That stamp on the top of the receiver is obviously fake, as soon as I saw it I decided I didn't need to see the rest of the photos.

Poor LE. I wouldn't be paid to have that thing in my safe.

Definitely fake, but the seller isn't purporting it to be otherwise and the rifle is priced reasonably for what it is. As they say, buy the gun not the story.

Edit: gun is SPF so someone got a great deal on a No.1.

It's in the right spot for a refinish captured at Dunkirk.

Yeah stuff like that pops up every once in a while. The vast majority of collectors run like hell from them or pick them up as conversation pieces. To many people have copies of the stamps and it is next to impossible to tell the difference between them and the real thing.

The Axis nations did issue captured SMLEs and No4s to rear echelon troops.

SMLEs in German hands were issued the Fremden Gerats nomenclature of 'Gewehr 281(e)', so any rifles captured at Dunkirk would almost certainly have been reissued by the Germans, but of course not to front line troops.

It's just a sporter. Funny how something like this will make some folks shun them.
I've a (likely anyhow) counterfeited waffenampt'd M44 that I bought for s**ts and giggles. I posted it and several folks got really...belligerent(?) about it.
" Drill and Tap it" from a purist who would beg you not to further alter a Bubba'd rifle?
Peculiar I'd say...
If it were not for Bubba'd rifles, I'd not have the variety in my safe that I do.
But again I suppose if one had a gun room full of untouched Milsurps; a tainted rifle might throw the whole lot into suspicion. Could be.
Stay safe
