Take note our very own Dan Opel made the trek to St. Louis and put on a very good showing against the best in the NBRSA. 61st out of 175 shooters in the LV Grand is nothing to sneeze at! Congratulations Dan!

Competition was fierce to say the least. In LV 100, the top 20 positions were won with teen aggregates. That is to say the average of (5) 5-shot groups was less than .200"!

No way of knowing for sure, since people just list the mfg. Like a lot of things in BR, what is old is new again. Gain twist is one of those things.

I would ask Krieger directly what percantage of 6mm barrels are of the gain twist variety in the BR contours.
 
I have asked this question of several individuals including
Tracy Bartlein.
The BR gain twists are very small in rate of gain, ex: 14 to 13.25 or 14.75 to 14 etc.
There was no real concensous to what they may add to the game, but folks like Tony Boyer has used them with HIS usual success so there is a move to this type of rifling.
If I have interpeted the info offer up, one is that it aids in reducing the stress placed on the bullet jackets.
There is always questions about rifling being exactly what is marked on the barrel, and is it truly a uniform rate throughout the length of the barrel.
With a gain twist, maybe some of this question is reduced?
 
The GT's that Krieger make are indeed only a slight progression (14-13.2)

Personally, I can't see how you can make a one-hole barrel any better, so I don't bother with trying fads like "5R/7R" and gain twists. It does show a decided preference for some brands on the part of perfectionist shooters.

Don't get too excited about brands. It is more about flavour of the day. All that needs to happen in the world of BR is for 2-3 top shooters to start winning with another brand and then the pack will move on. ie Hart, Shilen, Lilja (among others) have all had their day as well. The record book was built on pretty much every brand out there. You could argue that Bartlien (sp?) is the new flavour of the day, since they have only just started clogging up the equipment lists, when 3 yrs ago you hardly ever heard about them.
 
Very true Rick, but then isn't that what precision shooting is all about? :)

I think it is true of all disciplines that shooters all want to use what the successful shooters use. I would still love to give short range BR a go... (did I mention I am getting sucked into building a 6PPC with a gain twist?) I'll keep my eyes peeled for Rosebud next year and try and work up the courage to come out and get waxed!
 
It would be great to have you at Rosebud. I was beaten like a rented mule this year, so you have no fears about getting waxed. I have that position sewn up.
 
I never worry

as to whether or not I am competitive or not. I go to the matches giving the best I think I can give and see what the end result is. Every match there is a new learning experience.

What I find it takes about the third match for things to start ticking and making sense. By that time there is no more matches for me.......:(
