NCstar spotting scope comes apart!!!

I brought my brand new NCstar 60x spotting scope to the range the past weekend. After shooting a few rounds, I noticed it had been knocked off the table and was on the ground! Picking it up, I noticed the hinged front lens cover had broken off at the hinge :( But was alarmed me was that the joint at the bend has also popped open! Looks like the bracket that held it together on the inside has broken off. The entire scope had no dents or scratches so I am sure it landed on the cover, not the joint. Pictures are below:

For a $115 scope, I would accept that their optics would not be as good as more expensive
brands. I would even ignore the broken front cover. But for the housing to be this flimsy I find unacceptable. :mad:

The dealer who sold it to me was very understanding and offered a replacement at a little over half the price. But he warned me the manufacturer will not entertain any request to have it replaced as it was dropped. Well I felt for an outdoor/hunting equipment, it should not have sustained this kind of damage so I asked him to take this up with them first. He agreed and I hope to hear back from him soon.

Am I expecting too much? :confused: Do other NCstar optic owners have a similar experience?

I dont think too many people are going to be surprised about this, heck Ive got a bushnell scope acting up and Ive got PM's from people telling me I should have expected something like this from a cheap bushnell and should have spent no less than $500 on a scope (which sadly I had less than $200 left over for a scope at the time).

Drache, I agree, that one must invest as much in optics to gain much. But to those who tell us we get what we pay for, this I have to say: I believe one must spend sensibly on a sport that shares time and money with family. So...to those who can spend much, good for you. But don't tell others who can't spend as much they have no right to expect some level of quality on what they pay for. And in this case inferior optics I will accept. But a flaw in the construction is another.

Yes thats true. People have to balance their priorities and spend sensibly. No one is telling you what to spend and if you cant for whatever reason, family etc, thats the way it goes, thats your choice to. However if you buy crap, which the person buying it made that decision or they would not have bought it in the first place and it tanks, dont ##### at the people saying you get what you pay for.

I agree with you that one has to buy wisely... That's why rather not buy something if I cannot afford/find a quality item... Because in the end, innexpensive solution always end up been the 'expensive' solution (since you pay twice).

This been said, I feel sorry for your lost, good luck with your warranty and keep up posted!
 
I am with you on that. However, like I said, a joint that fails from a 3' fall to the ground, not even on concrete, shouldn't happen on a $100 spotting scope. $30? Maybe. Looking closely, the internal anchor has a thin plastic base.

I am dealing with their dealer here. He confirmed receipt of the pictures. I will let you know what I hear.

So you would gladly miss hunting season instead of putting a $200 scope on your rifle?
