Hey guys, as the title suggests, I've narrowed down my choice between the NEA 14.5" or the black forge 16". Both have life time warrantee and are in my price range 1000$. Any opinions between 2? The NEA has the quad rail extended length handguard which is nice, however the Black Forge is 150$ cheaper. I've heard that NEA early product was kind of dumpy but they have upped their game as of late. I handled a black forge rifle today and was pleased with the smoothness as well as the overall finish.

Any suggestions? And before anyone bothers typing it, saving up extra money for a DD or something like that isn't in the cards. I pretty much owe the wife a lifetime of favors for allowing me to spend 1k, let alone 1500$

Black forge or just get a Nork

Well I thought long and hard about the norc. I've heard lots of people say that they are great shooters, only the fit and finish leave a little to be desired. I got to handle one today for the first time and I was not impressed. The finish looked really bad on this particular gun. I mean, I know that they are pretty cheap but for just 100$ more (and still in my budget), I could get the Black Forge.
Is there anything particularly bad about the NEA? I really do like the look of the gun with the full length quad rail. I have held and and played (not shot) an NEA and at first I thought it was crap, but then again it's brand new. The selector switch and charging handle felt a little "sandy", and I assume they would smooth out over time and use.

Neither. You can find a better rifle on the EE for same money. S&W, Bushmaster, RRA etc. rifles always pop up on there for around $1000

My vote is for the NEA.
The two biggest criticisms here have been a) shillgate and b) QC issues. Some people will never get past (a) and I understand that. Wrt (b), it appears that the worst is behind them but if you are concerned that they haven't ironed out all of their QC issues, they have at least been consistent on righting problems quickly and without hassle. Plus it is Canadian made and despite everything negative about NEA on CGN, that is still important to me.

S&W MP Sport at Wanstalls for $899 - $10 shipping. If you can live without the dust cover and FA.

My wife shot hers for the first time today with the iron sights it came with. Checking the '0' at 25 yds she shot a 2" group with three in virtually the same hole! At 100 yds she put four into 4" with a called flyer.

With two feet of snow on the ground, the glare was blinding in the sun and with her sun glasses on, she couldn't see through the peep well enough to shoot. Can't wait to see what she does with the red dot .....

That is not entirely true... a few days ago, a fellow CGNer posted groupings at 50 yards with his NEA. All of his posted groupings keyholded at 50 yards

Which part of what I said wasn't entirely true? I'm as curious as everyone else as to the outcome of the keyholing but that doesn't contradict what I stated.
Anyhow, let's try to keep our advice to the OP on track and avoid speculation. It would be nice if just one of these threads did not end up locked.

Sorry what do you mean by "shill gate". And I have looked at the EE before. I will keep that in mind when I get my backpay. Has anyone here ever had any experience with black forge ?

A couple of years ago, when NEA was a site sponsor, they had at least one "shill" account here on CGN. This account talked up NEA like they were an impartial party but they weren't. They got caught doing this and shortly thereafter, they left CGN. NEA at first claimed that it wasn't a big deal and that lots of companies did this. They eventually came clean, admitted fully what they had done, and apologized but damage was done and some people will never do business with them because of that.

Can you give reason for this?

Do a search for yourself and you will find that NEA have the worst reputation in term of quality control. I can understand that the early batch had some issues but every now and then, there's a new thread popping out with bad review.

Gotcha. Thanks. It does seem kind of cheap for a company to do this, however it still doesn't deter me from buying.

I will take a better look. The research I've done so far seems to have decent reviews, however I will look a little deeper. I still have a couple months before I get my back pay anyways

I have an Armalite M4 and a Colt HBAR from way back some 20 years ago.

Recently, I traded one of my other black rifles to NEA and got two of theirs. I have not fired them yet but was not at all disappointed with the quality and definitely will keep one. I would not want a Norc ...
